LB Scott Fujita said goodbye to the Saints and New Orleans on Sunday when he signed a free agent deal with the Cleveland Browns.
But Fujita didn’t leave before leaving a generous gesture with the Gulf Coast region. He’s donated half of his $82,000 in playoff winnings to coastal restoration.
“The people of this city and region have been so good to me and my family that we just felt strongly about doing something to protect the city we have come to love so much, ” Fujita says. “And helping on the coastal issue has been on the back of my mind since I first got here.”
We encourage you to read the rest of The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune column to gain insight into Fujita’s family and its experiences in The Big Easy during his four-year tenure with the Saints … too bad they didn’t keep him.
Yes, too bad they didn’t keep him. But what an incredibly thoughtful and selfless gesture. Scott Fujita will always be a Saint.
