Naomi Klein, one of my favorite writers of the past decade, the author of The Shock Doctrine, one of my favorite books of the past decade, recently penned a fantastic article about the City of New Orleans and the ways in which it has been simultaneously both exploited and ignored during the Presidential campaign.
Unfortunately, Naomi Klein is 100% correct.
And it’s something we all said during the convention: Louisiana can be with you.
Louisianans understand– first-hand– the disastrous consequences of an ineffectual, uncoordinated, and overly partisan politics. Louisianans understand the real, tangible consequences of a failed and underfunded public infrastructure.

If anything, Gustav once again reinforced the dire need for increased coastal protection, and the failure to recognize this should be considered a dereliction of duty.
