TOMORROW, OCTOBER 12, 2007, Alexandria welcomes one of the best musical acts in the nation, Louisiana’s own Rebirth Brass Band, in a free concert at the steps of City Hall. During the past 25 years, Rebirth Brass Band has toured Europe more than twenty times. They’ve entertained thousands in Japan and Africa. They’ve shared the stage with musical luminaries like the Grateful Dead, the Meters, George Clinton, and Ani DiFranco.
Tomorrow’s concert will be held in conjunction with the semi-annual ArtWalk, an event in which Downtown businesses, churches, and museums open their doors and display their own collections of local, national, and international artwork.
If you’ve never seen Rebirth before (they play almost every Tuesday at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans), you are in for a treat. They do not disappoint.
The City had originally planned for the concert, which is a part of our Downtown Rocks concert series, to be held at the Red River Amphitheater, but we’re trying something new this time. The concert will be held on the steps of City Hall, which will allow ArtWalk patrons the ability to attend both events simultaneously. And yes, both events are family-friendly.
