Boyce Mayor Julius Patrick Killed in Automobile Accident on I-10

Longtime Boyce Mayor Julius Patrick was killed earlier today in a traffic accident on Interstate 10. The Town Talk describes the details:

That collision sent the Toyota across the median, where it clipped a Saab in the westbound lane. The Toyota then crashed head-on into Patrick’s vehicle.

Patrick was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish coroner, reads the report. The driver of the Nissan Maxima left the scene and State Police are searching for that driver and the vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, Alona M. Williams, 20, of Baton Rouge, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by Acadian AirMed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, the Troop A report stated.

The driver of the Saab, Scott M. Gilbert, 27, of Houston, Texas, sustained minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital for treatment.

State Police said the Maxima has Louisiana license plate OTE 951. State Police Troop A is asking that anyone with information call (225) 754-8500.

Mayor Patrick was recently reelected after a tough campaign against Ernie Johnson.

  1. wow…..

I have known Julius for years, he used to buy car insurance from me back in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s

a great loss to Rapides Parish, City of boyce, and to the many people who consider him a friend.

sending prayers and good thoughts for his family.

  2. I will remember Mr. Patrick, not for his political career, but as my high school science teacher. He was one of those teachers that cared for his students to the extent that most remember him as a guiding influence upon their lives. I received a telephone call this morning from a former classmate, now in Baton Rouge, expressing her sadness and shock over his loss. He will be missed.

  3. I remember deciding to “test the waters” at a restaurant with a dance floor when an integrated group of teachers went out to eat together in the 80s. Julius Patrick and Loretta Hargroder got out on the floor and danced while the rest of us watched the crowd to see if the reaction was going to be calm, so we could relax and just be ourselves. Everything went fine.

  4. Mrs. Hargroder….

lovingly referred to as the Wicked Witch of Brame Jr. High

haven’t thought of her in years….

I lived through one year of her history class, 1971-72

is she still in town? she is one of the memorable ones….

  5. I didn’t know Julius but Loretta was still at Brame when I left there in 1997. Interesting to hear a story about her on a dancefloor.

    I’m sorry about the loss.

  6. Mrs. Hargroder is still at Brame. She is a great teacher. The kids love her and they learn so much in her class. She is one of the great assets of Alexandria.
I too am sorry about the loss. He sounds like an asset as well.
