George W. Bush: Terrorists Will Win If Democrats Retake CongressThis photo appeared in today’s Washington Post Online, capturing both a baby and a grown man weeping in the awesome presence of our President.

  1. What a scum-sucking piece of work our president is. He is completely devisive. Did he forget or ever even know that about half the country that he leads is democrat? Following the logic of the terrorists win if democrats win, then i guess that also means that America is 1 part freedom fighters, 1 part freedom hating terrorists. What an idiot. He makes me want to vomit. No wonder we have such a horrible partisan line dividing our nation in two.

  2. the truth of the matter is the lefties just dont have respect for anyhting American. The flag-they burn in. The President-we make movies about killing him. If its a democrat as President. Its okay if he gets oral sex in the “Oral” Office b/c its not really sex. And if its our soldiers and troops-You spit on them, insult them and call them dumb like John Kerry.

  3. DLC,

I can’t tell if you’re joking or if you actually believe this.

I suppose you believe that lefties like Martin Luther King, Jr. also had no respect for anything “American.” I’d like to know what your definition of “American” is. Does it encompass everyone who lives here?

By the way, the movie that featured a scene in which Bush was assassinated was made by British filmmakers.

And I don’t believe John Kerry has ever uttered a word against American soliders. Unlike our current President, Senator Kerry served with distinction in Vietnam (and he was actually attacked for his service by Republicans posing as some phony activist group, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth).

  4. Anon 2:16, you are dead wrong with your assertions and another perfect example of why this nation has become a battleground of partisanship. ONE- flag burning is protected under the AMERICAN constitution. i don’t condone it, but it’s a protected freedom nonetheless TWO- what movies in particular are you speaking of in which our president is killed. and besides, how is this an example of not respecting anything American THREE- who cares if the president does or doesn’t get oral sex in the oval office by his wife, mistress, press secretary, WHOEVER. it didn’t seem to impact or have anything to do with his ability to run the country. so, he cheated on his wife like alot of men (including righties) unfortunately do. it wasn’t the first time it happened & it probably won’t be the last. what’s your point on this again? that bill clinton is the shining lord savior to all evil lefties? let it go. he’s out of office and has been for the last 6 years. and finally, the one that takes the cake, FOUR- how dare you say that all liberals insult & hate our troops. that is the biggest load of bull i’ve ever heard in my life and demonstrates how unintelligent you are. true, i am no supporter of the war in iraq but that does not mean that i do not support our troops. quite the contrary in fact- i’ve had plenty of family and friends who have served our nation overseas and some of them have died doing it. so, pardon my french, but fuck you for even saying that.

I will agree with you on one point though- John Kerry’s recent choice of words regarding education & our troops was pretty bad.

  5. Yep, those dumb ass soldiers defend the very right and freedom to burn that flag. as far as the devisivness and partisanship, you cannot lay every bit of this at the feet of our president. i do not believe that liberals have much respect for anything to be honest with you.

  6. I don’t think any one has said the president was completely to blame for the devisiveness and partisanship going on. But, he is the leader of this country, which includes liberals and conservatives alike. I understand he’s desperate for the GOP to remain in control of Congress, but he should be trying to unite this country at such a tense & trying time instead of alienating half of US citizens and making such inaccurate and sweeping remarks.

  7. Eh. Kerry said he botched the delivery and was supposed to say something like “if you don’t study hard, you end up getting us stuck in a war like Iraq.”

Either way, it’s intellectually dishonest to actually believe that Kerry, a veteran himself, would mean to insult our troops. This is just a distraction from the real issues that we’re facing in Iraq.

Anyway, I think both Republicans and Democrats have respect for this country.

I agree with the previous poster. Statements that imply liberals don’t respect anything only serve to fracture and divide this country even more.

  8. Lamar,

kerry has insulted our troops in military a number of times. and if you believe that it was a botched punchline then you really are naive. that was the 3rd different excuse given for that statement.

  9. Look, I agree it was a terrible thing to say… and I think he owed us an explanation, which he provided.

I don’t think he meant to insult our troops; he meant to insult President Bush.

Still, I have a problem with this story, because it’s like we’re reliving the 2004 Presidential election; Kerry and Bush aren’t running against one another.

As fellow Louisianan James Carville just said on CNN, it’s much better to botch a joke than to botch a war.

  10. if you want to claim carville then do. to borrow a phrase from the dixie chicks “i am embarrased that he’s from La.” You think the last time an American citizen burned a flag he thought to himself “i really appreciated the men and women who sacraficed thier lives so i could burn this flag”? i have a really close friend who is a capt. in the army. ive talked tim him and alot of people in his unit. they believe in what we are doing over there and see it as a necessity. why cant you?

  11. dlc,

why can’t you understand that people have differences in opinion and all issues are not as black & white as you make them out to be.
it’s just plain ignorant to lambast someone purely because they are “on the other side” and don’t agree with you.

Your friend and his unit are doing their job and that’s great. i am appreciative of the work they are doing because i wouldn’t have the balls to do it myself. they believe in the job they’re doing and that’s great also. there are others, however, (including SOLDIERS WHO HAVE BEEN IN IRAQ), who do not believe in the necessity of this war &/or tactics used in fighting it. this in no way, shape, or form means that those that hold these opinions are any less supportive of the troops. they may not support the actual job being done, ie the war, but its being done nonetheless and our troops should be respected & protected.

I agree with Lamar that this thread seems to be offtrack… it is like the ’04 election all over again.

  12. My friends in the military aren’t captains or colonels or generals; they’re PFCs stuck right in the middle of this fiasco.

Two of my childhood friends have been killed in Iraq, one of them only four months ago.

And one of my best friends is a Marine on the frontlines in Iraq. (Thank God he’s coming home this week!)

I am tired of Republicans lecturing us about our moral responsibility over there, and so are my friends, the kids taking the bullets for our freedom.

With all due respect, it’s just rhetoric. We were coaxed into this war on bad intelligence, and now, we’re stuck without an exit strategy or a coherent plan.

Even James Baker III (who was a fixture at my alma mater) is telling George W. Bush that “stay the course” probably isn’t the best message. So we’re no longer “staying the course.” (Check your talking points memo from the RNC).

Flag burning is a misguided and insulting symbolic act. But it’s just symbolic.

What we’re facing in Iraq is real. Real human beings are losing their lives.

It’s ashame that you’d rather take issue with flag burning than with the misguided and poorly informed policies that have led to the deaths of nearly 3,000 American troops and tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of Iraqis, an estimated one-third of whom were women and children.

You should know: I think we’re doing the right thing in Afghanistan, though I wish we’d be more focused.

I think we were absolutely justified in taking out the Taliban, because they were willingly harboring the world’s most notorious terrorist.

I’m not one of those so-called “liberals” who believes that war should never be an option; unfortunately, war sometimes is an option… but it should be the last resort. And considering the Kay report, the UN weapons inspectors, and the countless alternatives that were presented before we decided to preemptively strike a sovereign nation, I do not believe that war was our last option in Iraq. (Why do you think that nearly every other industrialized country in the world doesn’t support our campaign in Iraq? Do you think it’s just because they’re cowards? Or that they’re just jealous of us? Or, could it be, that they recognized the evidence as it was presented and believed war was unnecessary?

We are stuck in Iraq, and the only decent idea I’ve heard for getting out is essentially Balkanization (which obviously has its own mixed results).

  13. Dlc, makes alot of good points Lamar. Neither side has shown real leadership. But, I will never vote for Hillary,Kerry,Kennedy,Shurmer,Feinstein,Feingold or any liberal that votes against making English our national language.

  14. And therein lies one of America’s biggest problems: We’ve been tricked into believing that fringe issues, like English as the “national language,” flag burning, and civil unions are the most important issues of our time.

They’re not. They’re fringe issues. As a culture, we’ve become overly consumed with issues that have little bearing on our daily lives.

We consume ourselves with this stuff, and we blissfully ignore the real issues that affect us: education, crime, health care, and the war in Iraq. Basically, you’re admitting that even if Senator Schumer introduced the most ground-breaking plan for solviving crime, you wouldn’t vote for him because of one entirely SYMBOLIC stance on one fringe issue. Or let’s say Feingold introduces a brilliant plan for Iraq… well, I suppose he’s still not getting your vote either.

Ronnie, I liked your music, but I disagree with your platform.

  15. add up all of your “fringe” issues and it makes one big freakin problem Lamar. Liberalism or Hillary Clinton is the anti-Christ I am sure.

  16. On education they are for ebonics in Calfornia. As for crime they want a gun band where people cannot defend themselves. And on healthcare we all know what Hillary did with that. I do not want socialized medicine. Sorry Lamar I agree to disagree on this too.

  17. What cracks me up, Lamar is that you obviously believe in the democratic way but it is wrong for any of us to believe in the republican way. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are to yours. Many people in my family have been in the military and in combat. They walk with their head held high knowing that in their own way they have preserved our freedom. If the taliban or a terrorist were knocking on your front door you better believe you would want someone like Bush who at least believes in the military. And by the way, Kerry did not honorably serve our country. It is a proven fact. He got shot on purpose so 1) he could come home and 2) he could use that as his ticket b/c even then he knew we was going to be a career politician. Do your homework.

  18. What Lamar isn’t old enough to remember is that this is John F’ing Kerry’s pattern of behavior. In 1973 after he returned from his FOUR MONTHS in Vietnam or off the coast of it, he denegrated the soldiers in Vietnam by calling them rapists and murderers. One year ago he accused our troops in Iraq of terrorizing the Iraqis. And of course yesterday he “misspeaks” and still refuses to apologize for the words HE SAID. What he MEANT to say is of no consequence until he apologizes for what HE SAID.

I’m not happy with the current situation of spending by our congress but you can rest assured that if democrats regain control of congress your TAXES WILL BE INCREASED! Partial birth abortion will be the law of the land and our military will be slashed as it has been historically under democrat control.

I for one would not like to see that happen.

    Vietnam Vet, the whole year
    1968-69

Had plenty of scratches there and didn’t apply for purple hearts!

  19. Why does anyone really care what John Kerry said? His delivery was petty and flawed, but he’s last year’s news anyway. The point of the post was to highlight Bush’ fear-mongering, liberal-hating rhetoric he is using to whip up right wing. (Why should we pay any President- Republican or Democrat to fly all over the country playing politics?) Bush has so polarized this country it breaks my heart. He talked a good game about crossing the aisle and unifying the country in his first run for the White House, but has done nothing but divide this great nation worse than it has been in my 50 years.

I once voted Republican, but I can no longer recognize the values that I did within the party 25 years ago. Now many of their leaders work to marginalize thinking people who embrace science and international diplomacy, characterizing us as Godless wimps who want to cut and run and kill babies. Get real; morality and faith are not qualities exclusive to a political party. Attributing moral superiority to a political party calls to mind a certain German party that rose to power in the 1930’s…

I have great admiration and respect for our military men and women and the work they do. Does anyone really believe the invasion of Iraq has been worth the 3,145 U.S. soldiers lives, plus more U.S contractors, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, plus trillion plus of our tax dollars now and in countless years to come. Our VA system will be bogged down for decades to come with the thousands of soldiers maimed in this conflict. Generations to come will be footing the bill for this failed war. We invaded Iraq on a false premise without having properly prepared for the mission. Our troops still largely do not understand the language or culture, by no fault of their own. Even the Pentagon has asserted the mission’s early and continuing shortfalls.

It makes me sick to see the enormous amount of wasted time and money spent by Congress fighting over issues that mean very little to the health and strength of our country. Something must change in the halls of the U.S. government. I hope the populace starts that change at the polls on Tuesday. The Democrats may not have all the answers, but America needs to send a message that the status quo isn’t working. Better yet, we should flood the mailboxes of our elected representatives demanding that sane, respectful dialogue replace the tiresome, regressive mud-slinging that passes for governing.

  20. Bush ought to be held personally responsible for every soldier that has died and for every one of the 600,000+ civilians that have died. The 9/11 terrorists were mostly from Saudi Arabia and there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Bush had no reason to invade Iraq and he lied to us, American citizens. We are not safer now.

  21. I feel safer. We’re fighting them over there instead of here. Instead of focusing on another terrorist attack here, all the jihadists are flocking to Iraq/Afhganistan to join the resistance.

  22. Who cares what John Kerry said? Well, apparently many, if not all, democrats in the house and senate since they’re all demanding an apology. Now, he’s finally issued one, albeit a half-assed one.

For me this all started in the late sixties, early 70’s when left wing wackos began taking over American politics. A democrat (jfk)got us engaged in the war in Vietnam, a democrat (lbj) got us bogged down there. Good ole LBJ, I was one of his “hired guns” in 1968-69. At one point we had half a million servicemen in Vietnam! Enter Richard Nixon who could have WON the war there had it not been for the lefties in congress who cut off funding, forcing us to pull out. Sound familiar? The same scenario is going to happen should democrats take control of the congress again. This polarization cannot be blamed solely on conservatives. If you think that, you have not been listening or paying attention over the past 35 years. John Kerry pretty much polarized the nation in 1971 with his “testimony” before congress. It has continued over the years with left wing partisan operatives, i.e. moveon.org and many others, calling our president everything but a white man. Liberals had it made when there were only three major networks from which to get the news. Now that there are alternatives to the liberal big three, liberals are frightened of their own shadow for fear we’ll hear the real truth about them.

Ted Kennedy killed a woman in 1969 and he’s still serving in the U.S. Senate. Trent Lott was crucified about a “joking remark” that he made at a birthday party. There is a terrible double standard for conservatives and democrats in this country.

I’m not happy with how the present congress has performed in its fiscal responsibilities of late, but that doesn’t mean I want a democratically controlled congress which will most certainly cut off funding again before the job is finished just as it did in Vietnam. It will also raise your taxes, as that is what democrats do, RAISE TAXES. I want to control my own money.

  23. yippeeeeee!! john mccain and barak obama are already starting to campaign for the ’08 election! this is exciting! i can actually see the end of the bush administration on the horizon. if mcccain & obama actually end up getting their respective parties nominations, i wouldn’t really care who’d win. they’re both excellent, respectible statesmen

  26. Just my opinion but I think Bush is a great guy. He’s kind, compasionate, intelligent, and actually cares about the people!! He’s a great person in the wrong occupation. He’s just a sitting duck taking blame for what everyone else does wrong, he’s just there to take blame for the others in the “house” who aren’t responsible enough nor have the ba..s to stand up for what they have scre..d up!! All of this and he doesn’t get paid enough for it. Truly people don’t bash the man until you know the whole story!!
