Alexandria Man and Lake Charles Doctor Killed in Two Separate Plane Crashes, Reports Bill Sumrall of the Town Talk and Renee Allen of KALB.
According to a breaking news article that appeared tonight on the Town Talk’s website, two separate small plane crashes killed an Alexandria man and a Lake Charles doctor earlier today. Both crashes occured in Grant Parish. Renee Allen also reported the story tonight on KALB-TV.
Dr. Sleiman Salibi was killed en route from St. Louis, Missouri to Lake Charles in a two-seater T-28 former military plane. The causes of the crash are not yet known.
Chad DeRamus, son of local businessman Jimmie DeRamus, was killed after a small Piper plane also carrying Jimmie, Peggy, and Jenny DeRamus and piloted by Jon Norman crashed in a field near Fairfield Road.

We lost a friend this weekend.
A friend with a zest for life, a sense of adventurism, who possessed remarkable compassion.
He loved to fly in airshows. To bring joy to youth who saw him in him what he wouldn’t say he was himself- a hero, a man who turned the mechanics of flight into something that everyone could understand and in turn share.
He honored warbird history by flying a T-28, and allowed many who had known the plane to see it up close. To sit in the cockpit once more, feel the burden of life and age lift, and to be that young airman pilot candidate again.
He was young and a professional in a profession that required as much skill as being a warbird pilot. This weekend he found himself in a situation.
Whatever the cause, we know the result. Celebrate his life, his spirit. He’s earned his wings. Someday, in the end, we all will.

December 1, 2008 would have been Chad Alan DeRamus’ 31st birthday. Our senseless loss is just as fresh today as it was on October 22, 2006. Chad was a careing, compassionate person who never met a stranger. He was constantly helping people he did not know. Over the last 2 years, we have received countless letters and visits from people, who Chad had made a profound difference in their lives. Please do not accept our silence, over the last to years as anything but our way of attempting to deal with our tragic loss and the chance to allow the Judicial process time to respond appropriately to the injustice of the loss. A wonderful gift to the world was lost that beautiful autumn day. A person who was making a difference in the world, one person at a time, was lost on October 22, 2006, senselessly because of greed. Just found out this wonderful man was gone. I remember his smile, his jokes, his kindness. A man who had a big impact in my life. A man whom I will be forever grateful. May his spirit rest in peace. May he be forever my angel.
