Roy Wins 33% of the Vote, Faces Brewer in Run-Off.
Silver Defeats Lampert, Hobbs Defeats Hickman, Lawson Defeats Slatkin

Please allow me, just once, to be a little hyperbolic.

Yesterday represented a great turning point in the history of Alexandria when over one-third of all voters cast their vote for candidate Jacques Roy, according to unofficial results. The difference between second and third place was a scant seventeen votes, narrowly placing Delores Brewer ahead of Roosevelt Johnson as the final precincts were counted.

During the next month, we should continue to talk about the issues, and we should encourage an inclusive conversation that brings everyone to the table.

On a personal note:
A special kudos to all of the people who have encouraged and emboldened me to express my opinions and an even greater thank you to everyone who has used this blog to stand up for what they believe in, to call people into action, and to hold others accountable. The Internet represents a powerful new median, and in Alexandria, we’re just now beginning to understand its potential.

Also, to the students, faculty, and alumni of Bolton High School, particularly those of you who have contributed to this blog, two very positive things happened last week that could change your school forever: Our school system is no longer under the desegregation order, and Mrs. Pam Webb was elected to serve your district as a School Board member. Seize the opportunity.

Round One is over.

But we’re not finished yet.

  1. Lets not get our hopes too high yet for Brewer. 17 votes isn’t too good a lead. I’ve seen 100 or so votes show up when they open em up to check the machines. I hope it stays the way it is, but don’t hold your breath. Be heck to pay if the totals change.

  2. I must say I was a bit disappointed with the results for city council. I was hoping that as a city on the virge of such tremendous growth as is being projected, the citizens would adopt an “out with the old” attitude. Now we’ll have the same council that has earned credit for stagnating this city and screwing up our utility bills.

On the bright side, WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! JACQUES ROY GOT 33% OUT OF 7 CANDIDATES!!!
Here’s what it means. Even though the same persons will sit on the council, when Roy takes over as Mayor, the council will actually have to follow the City Charter and work with the Mayor’s office like they’re supposed to. No more underhanded crap from the rogue council. No more city attorney’s wives getting consulting contracts, Chiefs of Staff being allowed to bid on contracts that are in any way associated with the city, no more of these unnecessary consulting contracts, and most importantly, no more of the “who know what” going on under the council’s table.

Great Job Alexandria!! You’ve proved that you are ready for this city to be all that it can.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for taking a step in the right direction last night.

  3. For the ones who voted for Jacques you did great for the others who didn’t you still will a chance to do what is right in the runoff. The status quo is out let the revolution begin Jacques Roy will be our mayor.

  4. I think it will be very hard for delores to win the runoff. i just don’t see CFS or Joe supporters voting for her in a runoff. Jaques is the next mayor.

  5. joe fuller said in one of his kalb vids (not his video blog) that if he wasnt running for mayor that he would vote for ms brewer.

  6. Did Joe Fuller also say his wife is on the city payroll and Brewer would continue her employment?

By the way Joe Fuller did not retire from Internationa; paper he resigned to keep from being fired.

  7. Fuller may be for DB, but he can’t pull many of his supporters with him. Ain’t gonna happen that way.

  8. Really, who cares who Joe Fuller is going to support. Even if he does back Brewer, there’s no way in hell he’s going to convince his 1,155 supporters to vote for her. He can’t do it. They’d think he’s out of his mind …and they’ll know he’s only doing it because he’s been promised something.

  9. Maybe Fuller just feels guilty . It was HIS wife that took the Insurance business at the ALEXANDRIA Housing Authority from Delores husband JOHN BREWER!

  10. Now its crunchtime for Roy. I really hope they can be civil and focus on the issues. In fact, I think a one on one debate would be perfect.
