I predict Roy will be in a runoff with Brewer. If I’m right, I don’t see how DB could win in the runoff. I predict that the business community will convince her to bow out of the runoff if she gets in with Roy rather than one of the blacks like they have been expecting. But if Roy somehow gets in runoff with a black, reps of the business community– even those who supported Brewer– will begin stopping by Roy’s party on election night in droves to proclaim their support of him for the runoff. The checks would start rolling in next week. Conversely, if Brewer gets in a runoff with a black, people will forget about any negatives. Business community will infuse more money into her camp and new white supporters will jump on board as well.

It really is not a black/white issue – but if folks continue to think that way, it may very well become one and as far as I can tell, black folks outnumber white folks in Alexandria – Go figure.

I hear you. I’d love to get beyond the black/white issue. The problem is that the black candidates lack crossover appeal. Plus having 4 in the race doesn’t help. Even black business leaders admit that what was needed was someone like Myron or Martin Johnson to run. Some blacks have also told me that none of the 4 are right for the job. The other problem is that whites perceive corruption among some of the black leadership. Others fear that the blacks are “taking over.” So, there’s a white push back factor. I think that if Roy can get in the runoff, he would be the candidate that could most likely work on uniting the community. This us or them attitude is going to prevent the city from moving forward.

It is not unlawful for John or David Brewer to provide services for the Housing Authority in the past or present. Only if DB is elected mayor. Then I know they would gladly not do any more business with it. Much ado about nothing at all.

You have got to be down right ignorant, bias, and blind. Roy is an individual who ask the people questions, answers these questions, and reacts to them with moral promp action. Roy is a man who is willing to put forth a motivated effort not seen in Alexandria for many years. Second you need to learn how to spell the mans name you are attempting to insult. If you want to address a major speed bump in Alexaxandria’s road to progress it is the city council president. This man wears a pair of sun glasses during city council meetings and is drapped back in his chair not taking anything said serious. This man does not have the respect to look the people in attending these meetings in the eyes. His displayed image of arrogance is offending and unacceptable. Now lets talk about puppets a certain female attorney, whose character displays the same ignorant arrogance as the city council president, is willing to tear the only potential unity Alexandria has for her individual greed and nothing else. If an individuals arrogance keep them from opening their ears and listening to the voice of the people the hope of compromise is destroyed and all hopes of progress are lost. People need to man up quit being bitchs and crying like babies and start to listen to the peoples agendas and lead our city in to an era of progression. Not humiliation!

I just went to the KALB website. Delores Brewer is sinking like the Titanic. I really felt sorry for her — she was totally unable to answer the questions truthfully. I think Roy could have hurt her more than he did. I guess he felt sorry for her too after watching her interview.

I don’t know about that.
I think some of Delores’ money, mainly the money with vested interests in city contracts (i.e. Provosty and associates) would support Roosevelt, because he represents their best chance at continuing to milk from the city’s teat.
Roe’s a nice guy, but the Provosty firm has a lot at stake in this election– and unfortunately, they’ll donate so much money to him it’ll be hard for him to say no.
However, besides those supporters and their friends, I think Roy will pick up the rest.

I know Delores Brewer as well, and yes, she is a very likable, kind person with good intentions for our city, but Mr. Roy isn’t attacking her personality or her family.
He’s pointing out that during her career in government, she and members of her family made money off of city contracts and insider deals. It simply doesn’t pass the smell test. Now, I don’t think Delores believed she was doing anything wrong, per se, because this is the way our government has operated for years and years— and many of her close friends engage in the same type of dealings. Still, it doesn’t make it right.
For one second, you Breweristas need to take a step back, consider the charges, and quit confusing the criticisms of her professional conduct as personal attacks.
We need good, open, and honest government, and it may make some of you uncomfortable to face the facts, Alexandrians deserve better.

Hey, did you hear that Delores Brewer had a nervous breakdown today and she had to have “Red” drive her to the hospital spouting about an open door and a city of love the whole way. When they got to the hospital, there was only one doctor on duty….you guessed it, DR JOHN SAMS. Delored was so enamored by “red’s” ideas that she and Sams both decided to drop out and back Hammond. I swear, it happened. I was riding in the trunk of the car.

yall some tough folks….po old doc sams, no attention at all….he is an idiot, no people skills, arrogant, etc. I would love to be a fly on the wall at the sams house and hear the fighting between doc and mrs doc. she seems as arrogant as he does by the commercials.. i would not support him because he is a medical doctor, a “healthcare professional” that apparently can not take good care of himself, much less this city ! Not to mention he is “butt ugly”!

I think roy is too young , inexperienced and not right for the job now. I don’t care for his father, but that would not keep me from supporting him later on. He should consider running for city council to let the voters see what kind of work he could do for the city, then , consider mayor.
The city has gone to the dogs ever since we lost key white council members who had some sense about what was good for the city. -
I agree about the council members, but that’s probably going to be permanent the way the city demographics break out.
As for Roy being too young. I disagree. He’s actually old enough to run for president, 35. I think Delores has been in there long enough and she’s shown that her ethics are at the very least pretty shady. I wouldn’t vote for any members of the council running either, for the exact reason you stated in your comment. the only ones left are “Red”, Jumpin’ Joe, Dr. Sams and Roy. While I do like alot of the points Sams makes, he and Jacques share the same stance on alot of topics. I just believe Jacques will be able to better communicate with the council, his staff, and the people of the city. I’d be willing to bet that Sams will back Jacques should he make the runnoff. From watching the forums where Sams and Jacques sat next to each other, it looked like Dr. Sams and Jacques got along pretty well.
