I went to the Grayson Capps show last night. Jacques Roy got nearly as big of an ovation as the band did. The thing he said about the local music scene being a grassroots effort is right on. I’m glad someone in this race is talking about getting more concerts and cultural events to this city.

jast want to say thanks to all of you who came out wednesday to see Grayson & the Stumpknockers. They had a really great time and look foreward to returning. All of this would not be possible with you, the educated musical consumer, so once again thank you for your support. The next big show will be comming up anyone have any suggestions?

Problem with young people being roy’s base of support is that that age group doesn’t vote in the numbers that older folks do. I’d be willing to bet that most of the people at the concert aren’t even registered to vote. Visits to senior centers and nursing homes would probably do more for him than appearing at a concert.
Jacques has attended senior centers, nursing homes, churches, community centers, and block parties held by senior citizens.
Young people are just a part of his base, and though you may be right that young people don’t typically vote, you must also realize that most Alexandrians under the age of forty have never had the opportunity to cast a vote in a close mayoral election.
Therefore, if by young people you mean anyone under the age of forty, I think young people WILL be voting in this election.
Second, as someone who attended the Grayson Capps show, I disagree with your assertion that most people present weren’t “even registered to vote.” Most of them are, in fact, registered, and many of them will vote.
If more young people vote, that is definately a good thing. I am glad to hear that you believe they will. Point well taken about the under 40’s around here not having a chance to vote in a close election for mayor before now. Interesting take on things. It will be interesting to see the breakdown on voters post election. I truly hope that we have a record turnout of people of all ages. It is a priviledge to vote.
