John Sams is full of himself. And he’s full of manure. The more he speaks, the more he puts his foot in his mouth. The forum only convinced me further not to vote for John Sams.
Are there any African Americans who read this blog? What are your feelings regarding the candidates in general and specifically the African American Candidates? Why?
I didn’t find out anything new about the candidates except that John Sam’s may have eaten Mary Poppins. Delores did ok but I still think we need new blood and not the Provosty firm running the city anymore.And if we have industry that wants to come to Alex I would want Jacque Roy talking to them.
It sure was funny how Delores mentioned David pugh and Rob radcliff who are supporting Roy. If Delores wins the Provosty firm will still run the city. Roy martin will get his transportation to his plant and the city stay the same.
I attended the forum- must say that there were some really good moments. Where were you Lamar? I don’t want to be negative, because there was really, for the most part, a good feeling at the forum- really glad to be an American, part of the process, and all of that. I do think that Delores did very well. She is the candidate I support, and have supported all along. She may have a mistake with Bridget Brown- any of you out there who has never make a mistake- please feel free to criticize. But she is an honest, hardworking, intelligent woman that knows how the city works and has some good ideas. No, I don’t need to ‘splain them to you– if you listened you heard them. We can always change our minds, but this forum cinched it for me. I really like some of the comments Roosevelt Johnson made. I think if I were not supporting Delores, he might get my vote. Roy did OK. I was really expecting more out of him. But you know what, if he were elected Mayor, I would support him. He has potential. As for the rest of the candidates-well, let’s just hope we don’t have to make a choice between them.(and I agree– Sams was very scary)
I thought the forum was a great idea,but the questions were so weak. All the candidates repeated the same thing. I still think Roy could handle Bridget Brown(Cruella deville)and the council better than Doleres.
I thought it was interesting that Delores admitted that Robert Ratcliff was one of her biggest contributors while she was standing in the Performing Arts Building. This building was constructed by Ratcliff. The building has severe leaks during wind driven rains. The leaks are due to improper installation of the brick veneer on the building. Ratcliff was told by the Architects and the City that he would required to fix the problem but he refused. The results of the “expert” are in and further support the fact that Ratcliff is at fault for all the leaks and he still refuses to address the problem. So..will Mayor Brewer cut the Rat some slack as a result of his generous contributions to her campaign? What say yee Breweristas?
Just looking over on Cenla Antics. Lamar point out to our boy Roy the stuff about Roy O. Martin and Brewer and the transportation stuff. Something worth investigating.
Regarding the Coughlin Saunders building, there has been no formal report issued. It is my personal opinion that there are problems with the porosity of the brick and that the waterproofing of it was removed as a value engineering item. If there is an installation problem I am not aware of it at this time. If there is we will address it and will not go looking for political favors to get out of it. If you have the guts to state your name then do so. Mine is Rob Ratcliff Jr.
I watched from home. Found it interesting that KALB first cut off Roy’s opening comments by starting the commercial too soon and then at the beginning of the next break flashed a “Brewer for Mayor” sign on the screen before going to commerical. I was beginning to think they were showing who they were favoring.
What we need is mayor interested in the city of Alexandria not the City of Alexandris brotherhood of social elitists.
Just look around you. In the last twenty years what has our city government done except to make the gap between its 2 prime communities larger. Look at the difference between White St. and Polk St. We need a mayor that understands this difference.
I hardly think Delores Brewer is this candidate. Handouts and favors can only last so long!!

The problem is that the cavity between the masonry wall and the brick veneer is full of mortar and is preventing the water from being able to drain out through the clogged weep holes. The brick veneer was not designed to be waterproof nor does it have to be if installed correctly. Theoretically, you should be able to remove all the brick, seal all the joints in the masonry wall, and have a watertight building. I do hope that your company will step up and do the right thing if it is determined that you are responsible.

I understand if your job is in jeopardy, but you are incorrect in what you stated. If you think you could take the brick off that building and expect it to be waterproofed then you need to review the plan details(again)and go back to school. That would never work. By the way, anyone with construction, not design experience would know that you cannot completely keep mortar out of a cavity while laying bricks, even with mortar net. And did you really write that “the brick was not designed to waterproof the building” If that were the case then why was it originally supposed to have a clear waterproofing applied. (which was later deleted) Call me if you wish to discuss, I have a good feeling I know who you are. You know how to find the number.
Roy definately answered every question with honesty. Half of the candidates didn’t even answer the direct question. Roy is the most qualified individual for the job– no questions about it!

At the forum last night, he made several attempts to push down his opponents and other citizens of the Alexandria. Why not just talk about what YOU are going to do and why YOU would be a good mayor rather than talking about what others are doing wrong?
He talks a good talk about ending corruption, etc. by never gives any details about how he will accomplish these things. This tells me that he is pandering to us, telling us what we want to hear, but has no plan on how to execute his catch phrases.
I don’t know who I’m voting for, but I know with 100% certainty that it won’t be John Sams. He’s a bully. And, yes, he looked creepy.

I think he is in the run off and did well last night by standing out as the most honest on the issues. There is a race problem in almost every city and most posters from what I have read comment about corruption constantly in a manner that is indirect or direct. He is not fibbing about those two and makes a good point when no one else will admit the problems even exist.

He is self made, probably one of the hardest working people in our city and an asset. Whoever is mayor would be wise to try to recruit him for advice and assistance. His only fault is he should slow down and work less. By the way, he did not know Jacuqes Roy before this campaign.

Did you guys know that the Provosty firm gave One million dollars to the Brewer campaign and it has not been reported because it was in euros. Did you know that Dr. Sams has a map of the “great loop road” tatooed right above the crack of his ass. Did you know that Ms. Hammond was not really in the military, she just served as a flag girl in ROTC. Did you know that Roosevelt Johnson is close personal friends with Roosevelt Johnson. Did you know that Joe Fuller owns Bayou Waterpark in Baton Rouge and he is looking to franchise.
Sams is VERY scary– God help us if he wins. He will bring nothing but chaos — he makes allegations with no proof- that is worse than a lie! The man is a lunatic.
Sams helped save one of my friends life. So whatever you need to say to make your political point is understandable but not nearly as important as what he has done for people.
Jacques Roy gets my vote. Frankly I don’t want a doctor/mayor running Alexandria. He might raise the utilites again just to give his patients a heart attack and then be able to collect from them in both offices. He already gives me diarrea and he’s not even my doctor. I’m just a taxpayer new to the city, but I came from a small town where utilites were much less. I’m not voting for anyone fromerly associated with downtown! If you were there, you were involved because you didn’t do anything about it.

Sams is the only person at the forum who spoke directly about the problems of race relations, and said that there was corruption in city government, every other candidate danced around and Delores even said she would not answer that at this time(corruption). I am a retired city employee and I will vote for Sams
