  1. I like Sams because he has run the best issues oriented campaign. He is working hard to show everyone he is the candidate who can clean things up. He has a mixed rep with some but has actually the best platform in my opinion and deserves a chance. He has stayed focues on the issues and has by far the best message.

  2. probably hold his own. he does not have to win-just stay on that message and he can win…hell he is right and my house is split right now. my wife is for him and I am impressed…not sure who I will vote for but closely watching sams. roy is part of edwards crowd-no change there..brewer tried that housing contract which I feel is unethical.

  3. The problem is Sams can stick to an issue, he will stick to his opinion FOREVER. He comes across as the most stubborn, arrogant man alive.

I keep hearing that he is for the common man, that is because he thinks the common man needs him. He strongly believes the common man is too stupid to fend for himself. He must take care of us all.

  4. He also says he has to try to remember to “talk down on your level” in order that you understand him??? A real humble fella…Huh???

  5. You guys are incestously retarded. Roy is NOT part of the Edwin Edwards bullshit. Sams campaign, you guys need to stop being superfluously negative. TRY SOMETHING ELSE AS AMMUNITION.

  6. What difference does it make what we think. King maker Lamar has hand picked Roy as the next Mayor. The impression of Roy as espoused by Lamar is that Roy basically sits at the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty. And who said only one person was every born sin free? Lamar present Roy as the second.

  7. People! Step back and take a look who is trying to lead this city as mayor. I care not the skin type of the mayor BUT I do care about their ability and intelligence! All the black candidates are either convicted criminals OR are so ingorant we have not a chance in hell with them! We cannot have a black mayor with the crop of candidates running. plain and simple. It just so happens that all the white candidates are professionals and intelligent. I hope it comes down to Roy and Brewer. At least we know we are going to move foward. Think about the alternative……..bbq pits bussin’ chicken quatas setup on city hall steps wif ludacriss ballin’ on da mic dogg!!!!
HELL NO HELL NO HELL NO
The whites work too hard to let this city turn to shi*>

  8. Everyone that has anything to do with Ned’s regime should not be elected to office, simply because of what it has done to this community over the past months. I believe it’s time for a change just as Sams and Roy have both stated, but I do believe that Sams is way too arrogant and should rethink statements he has said such as his “greatest weakness” statement which he claims is to be his intellect. In his video blog with Mrs. Goddard he lets us know that he has to “keep it down to a level.” Is this the way we want our future leader to speak to the public? Hey, I know, let’s talk down to people so we can get what we want from them! This makes me think that because of his arrogance he won’t be able to work with the council to get things done. Sams is a great doctor and should stick to what he is great at, which is being a physician. Mayor is also a FULL-TIME job and Sams has made it clear that he will be a PART-TIME Mayor. You can’t just do this job half-heartedly you have to have passion and want to make a change and Sams hasn’t shown me one sign that he’s truly passionate about being Mayor. The candidate that I have seen passion in and that has told us he will be SACRIFICNG time spent with his practice is Jacques Roy. Roy is young, energetic, and has shown us passion. He is obviously the right choice for Mayor of Alexandria.

  9. Cenlamar is right. Why can’t we have an issues oriented campaign that stays above the muckraking personal attacks?

  10. Sams has been running an issues based campaign only. He is not attacking anyone in the race. He simply says support schools, police, redevelop downtown, lower utilities, clean up corruption and anyone can read about the issues at http://www.advancealexandria.com.

Sams will be a full time mayor and will work harder than anyone running.

  11. I agree with the comments about Sams working hard. I get turned off when they spout something about him being part time. He is not part time at anything he does.

  12. Yes, but he’s said that he will continue his medical practice when elected. He may be hard-working, but this is a FULL-TIME JOB. He thinks that just because the CEO of GM only spends four hours a day at the office (total fabrication, btw) that he’ll be able to run the city part-time.

He needs to dissolve himself of his medical business if he really wants to be mayor. Maybe he could sell it back to Slatkin.

  13. I have met Dr. Sams before in person, and he seems to be a very honest, knowledgeable, nice man. However, his confidence in himself and his “know it all” attitude that he exudes on television and interviews makes me question whether he is capable of sitting in a board room with other city officials and not look down upon them. Whether he will consider other people’s opinions when making decision, or simply assume that his way is ALWAYS right.

I also worry that when new business tries to come to Alexandria, that he will come across as a pompous ass, and scare potential investors away.

He might very well be a wonderful person in real life, but the persona that he has always portrayed in the media (through school board interactions and now his mayoral candidacy) is not a positive one.

I just can not see myself voting for him to run our city.

I feel, as others have stated, that in order for this city to have a new start….it must have a clean start. None of the candidates other than Sams or Roy can say they have not had dealings with city hall directly.

Roy is young, passionate, and best of all determined. This city does need an overhaul. From a totally new side. I clearly can not see how we can choose anyone but Roy.

    ROY FOR MAYOR!!!

  14. People make an issue out of Roy’s age – but if my calculations are correct, Ned was only about 5-6 years older than Roy when he was elected.
Still can not get past Sams having 2 real jobs that will conflict with each other- especially since they are both important jobs-

Scenario for Sams: You are in a meeting that will last 4-5 hours with a large business that is looking at Alexandria as a possible location- your presence is vital to the meeting. You get a call – one of your long-time patients is in the hospital in critical condition and needs your immediate services. Who do you choose?

  15. All doctors go on call for each other in the same situation around the nation every day of the week.

When not on duty other docs are on call. Simple as that…

  16. Please take a look at JF on kalb videoblog! This bluegum iz ignant! Hees bees da man fo da job! He said he wants to put “affordable housing” downtown (AKA…PROJECTS!)
Bullshi$#….NO WAY…..stay in sonia quatas homey! Why don’t we put a moat around that area and throw them pigs feet fo days grubz!!

  17. I find it interesting that Dr. Sams is not even bothering to attend the council meetins. I guess he is too buzy being a doctor. Maybe they can reschedule them ,after he is elected, to a time that fits his schedule. Or hold them in his waiting room. That way he can check in between patients.

  18. There should be one BASIC qualification for being mayor of a city of the size of Alexandria, other than having a college degree and SOME management/business experience. That qualification should be that he/she is able to speak in public without embarrassing the whole population of the city. That alone would rule out all three black candidates!

  19. Chocolate:

Your comments are extremely offensive. Why not concentrate on the attributes and/or the problems of each candidate, rather than the color of their skin. You have insinuated in one of your comments that you are not a racist, and you are not concentrating on the candidates’ skin color; HOWEVER, YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR USERNAME SEEM TO SUGGEST OTHERWISE! I think many people of all races find many of your postings abhorent (I am one of them, and I am Caucasian). Here is a good 21st century approach you might want to consider if you have other comments: use educated, respectful comments, then you would have a more receptive audience. Until then, I do not think many people care about what you have to say.

  20. I think nochocolatecity is somewhat on target, however, I think he should not be so brash about the race comments. Nochoc is right when hs/she stated that we should be scared!

  21. Chocs on….did you HEAR JF speak on the vod blog???? if you were not embarrased for our city your crazy!

  22. I am proud to be Merican and in Merica we can say and do as damn well please no matter how iganant it may be. We have this right because Martin Luther King gave it to us when he said, “Seek the truth for the truth shall set you free” and that set the stage for everyone to know how iganant each other is. Just cuz you is iganant, don’t mean I got to vote for you and I think it is a mighty neighborly thing to do to let me know just how iganant you is. Although I do not vote for iganant folk, lots of you out there do and that is your right as a Merican to be as iganant as you want to be. I just wish you wouldn’t burden me with your iganance.

  23. Roy or Brewer, that is the choice I am faced with. So far it’s Roy as he is young, eager, educated, seems to have vision, is not a part of the past problems in city government, and will answer questions clearly.

There you go again Spanky. You oughta quit picking on folks. Yes I know it’s a target rich blog but resist the urge.

  24. OK people…here is a scary thought:

There are 30,000 people registered to vote in the City. Lets say the turnout is 40 percent.. That means that 12,000 people will vote. There are six legitimate
candidates. Assume that they all get close to the same amount of votes. That means that a mere 2000 votes can put any of these candidates into the runoff to be the Mayor of a city of 50,000 people. SCARY!!!

  25. Why did it take Delores so long to get her website up and running?? Hasn’t she been planning on running for months?

It sure takes her along time to get anything accomplished.

  26. Not KJA. Sams’ website is hideous. Just like his commercials. Sams won alright. The first candidate to completely make a fool of himself. Knew that wouldn’t take long. His 1% support just went byby. Its Roy vs. Brewer. May the best person win.

  27. Closest thing to a cure for corruption is pretty damn good folks…

Sams is getting to you is what it sounds like. No his site nor ads are not hiddeous. Are you bloggers nuts or just obviously working for someone else. I cannot vote and do not live inside Alexandria. But damn the message and ads are freaking making this guy electable when all of the bloggers keep hitting him. Face it.

The new poll proves it. Do not take my word for it.

  28. I think it will be Roy vs. Fuller.

Sam looked arrogant, Brewer looked unprepared, Roosevelt didn’t look at all, CFS looked like an idiot.

The only two that looked competent and seemed to come across as capable were Fuller and ROY.

    ROY for Mayor.

  29. give me a break. listen all, i am a sams supporter. everything i saw at the debate was through those glasses. that aside, it sure seemed to me roy talked in pablum and platitudes with absolutely nothing specific. vote for me cuz you can trust me. his comments and lack of any detail in his answers clearly shows a candidate that is 35 and decided he wanted to be mayor two weeks before qualifying. sams on the other hand was very specific with details, actual projects, and facts. he pointed out the 60 million to whites, and 400 thou to blacks before the question was even asked. seriously, where am i wrong here. tell me what roy told you he intends to do other than banal generalities?

  30. I agree with Biff. If you think little lord fauntleroy AKA Mr. Rogers is ready to take on Myron Lawson and his gang of theives, you are delusional.
