  1. no way is he part time…you are sick in the head…he is full speed and full time. do not lie about the guy. He will not take new patients and will change some of his practice to see patients after hours on rounds.Sams is by far the best candidate in the race.

  2. Sams ad on radio was right on target with all my friends.

My buddies heard it and loved it. I am telling you the guy has hit a good chord with the public becuase he will change things.

“Closest thing to a cure for corruption.”

That is very creative and very much direct at the real problem. I am voting for Dr Sams!

  3. There is absolutely no possible way that the citys mayor will not be full time. It is just ridiculous that people believe it will work.

  4. Full speed you say?? I think he is on speed, or Ritalin or Adderall.

It is common knowledge that he prescribed it to his son when we were in high school, not for ADD, but so he could get more done in a shorter period of time.

    Doctor, Heal thyself.

  5. With the present situation that is Alexandria City Politics a whole lot of change and confrontation is needed. Sams may be a bull in the china shop but he will shake things up. After the city gets back on an even keel then worry about a nicy-nicy mayor. This racial bias, stealing and political payouts needs to stop dead still. Sams can do it. We don’t need a firecracker we need a nuke.

  6. If he was the only one running you wouldn’t get to vote for him he would have been elected due to no opposition. Dh.

That is a stupid trite old saying that has no basis in fact. An unopposed candidate is automatically elected at the close of qualification in the absence of competition.

  7. He has trouble getting along with others. There is more to being mayor than exposing corruption. He and the council would be engaged in a 4-year “Texas Death Match” that would be amusing for awhile, but boring and finally counterproductive in the long run. Ask any school board member who is willing to provide a candid account.

  8. Funny the School Board is still there and, I guess, doing the job, despite him being on it. Also funny is how many mental midgets live in his school board district. They must be mentally light in the loafers for he was elected. Maybe they appreciate the job he is doing. His controversy keeps everyone cautious.

  9. He is just ONE member on the school board. He would be the only mayor. I can’t imagine him trying to lure any new business to town through compromises and concessions that are always necessary. He is too damn stubborn to be mayor.

  10. He may be just stubborn enough to clean out that shithouse the City of Alexandria has become so the next time progress might happen. Ever wonder why every other major city in Louisiana seem to be growing except Alexandria. Alexandria continues to lose population. Whites fleeing only ghetto’s left (majority that is) for a tax base. Alexandria has been corrupt – white folks first but now the Blacks are taking their turn. It has never changed and never will. We don’t have a black/ white problem we have a moneyed/welfare/suppressed blue collar society problem. Only difference today from 10 years ago is the Brothers and sisters enjoying the largesse of the Government instead of the White families. Go back as far as you like in the City’s history and you will find, up until 10 years ago, the same old silk stocking gang names and their descendents enjoy the labor of the joe and dejoan sixpack names.

  11. Or stubborn enough NOT to compromise with the council, then we will have four years where nothing gets accomplished but some interesting meetings. The ratings for the government access channel will go through the roof.

  12. Sams must be the man for I have never seen so many folks so scared. Be interesting to learn the employment or whatever of the anti-Sams.

  13. I like Sams. He is a good person and my family has been seeing him as a physician for years. So I have first hand knowledge.

  14. John? Is that you?

It sounds like something you’d say. On par with “my biggest weakness is my intelligence.” You should learn some of the basics of campaigning.

  15. See the “Scenario for Sams” in the comments for “Let’s try this again”

Good point made- no matter what you say- he can not be in 2 places at one time- which is what he is claiming he can do.

  16. Docs cover for each other all the time in the event one is not available. It is a matter of protocol among physicians to do so.

  17. True. I am an OBGYN and it is common practice to be on call for other docs for periods of one to two weeks or over weekends.

  18. No, but niether are you…and for the record tons of docs perform as elected officials at all levels and no one complains about them being a doctor any time except before they are elected which means it has more to do with spin than factual problems.

Sams is the only one talking issues too like jobs, schools, supporting LSUA, supporting downtown revitalization and lowering utility rates.

  19. anonymous said…..Sams is the only one talking issues like jobs, schools, supporting LSUA, supporting downtown revitalization and lowering utility rates…..

Clean out your ears! Several of the candidates have talked about those subject areas.

Roy has covered most. Pay attention!

  20. Alice Hammond has talked about all those issues, too. Look at her website. Talking about issues DOES NOT mean you should or even could be Mayor.

I also don’t think Sams has the diplomacy skills to accomplish anything. Can you really see him working with LSUA? Or with home developers? Good grief!!

  21. Sams is the only one talking issues like jobs, schools, supporting LSUA, supporting downtown revitalization and lowering utility rates…..
    — that is not true. I have heard other candidates talk about the same issues. In Roy’s announcement speech he specifically talked about how he wanted to lower utitily bills.

  22. Roy’s speech repeated Sams commercials to a great degree-different candidate some different verbage but really resmbled a cut and paste to my circle of friends. The other note is that Sams staked out these issue almost a year ago and has been on it like a laser beam since. He especially has pushed accountability and lower utilities since day one of his campaign…so coming along after you find out what is working is not leading…Sams is doing just that and is not ruffling a bunch of feathers except the campaign hacks on this board.

I will vote for Sams for being out front and telling it like it is. He is ready to move the city much more so than Delores or Roy becuase of his extensive private sector experience, public service and military background. It is a good mix that sets the guy apart and when he took the high road in this race he got my vote and many more.

  23. True. Sams was already on the air with his issues months before roy even decided to run or announce. Sams also owns the accountabilty issue because he is honest and not just saying it…he is independent and not just saying it and he is accountable and not just saying it…new poll shows it too.

  24. How can you accuse Roy of “copying” Sams ideas. Alexandria’s weaknesses are Alexandria’s weaknesses. Sam’s didn’t come up with them on his own!!! Why should Roy, Brewer, or any other candidate compile a list of target areas that are different than Sams, if those are the obvious problems? Sams ideas are good….but i do not think i would accuse Roy of copying and pasting them, because it would have made NO sense for him to “choose” new issues when the most important ones are the obvious ones. This is not a national election where the candidates should choose a platform to run on. This is a local campaign where the candidates need to be ready to clean house.

  25. You sound really defensive. The fact is Sams is out front on the issues and running a positive race. I like the way he has handeled the race. I am sure the hate filled attacks will come but to be honest it will not change my mind one bit.

And the closest thing to a cure for corruption is exactly what we need…go Dr. Sams.

  26. Sams was out at a function last night and drew a serious crowd of well wishers.

I believe he is building momentum where others have been drained of thier early mo…

  27. I’m just skimming here amongst the Sams comments. Let me just say that I went to school with his son and he did not ever abuse drugs. Get your facts straight before you start spreading rumors about the guys family. Sams is a decent man and so is his family.

I’ve chosen to support Roy instead because Sams does want to continue his practice. Sams, being a decent man, will surely uphold his hypocratic oath. This is a problem for me.

  28. Sams will be a full time mayor and will actually work harder than anyone running. Count on it.

He is working hard and running a great campaign. Some rumors are saying the polls show him up there. My friend at a certain paper said so…we will see because the numbers are to come out on Sunday supposedly.

  29. I am an educator and have first hand experience with the damage John Sams can and DOES do. He is NOT out to make things better for Alexandria OR the Rapides Parish School Board. He is only out to gratify his own ego. When people disagree with him, he ruins their lives by interfering with their careers. That’s all you have to do, folks; Have a different opinion than “his highness” and you’re on the hit list.

That is why you won’t hear the truth in the newspaper or anywhere else about what goes on within the Rapides Parish school system at the hands of John Sams. Everyone in the field of education is afraid that they’ll be removed from where they are or fired altogether if they voice a disapproving opinion about him.

And let’s talk about ethics, shall we? John Sams is ANYTHING but ethical or decent. The job of school board members is to set policy, NOT to be involved in personnel matters. Not only is it unethical for a school board member to have anything to do with personnel decisions, IT IS ILLEGAL. Still, he is at the school board office several times a week pestering (and probably intimidating) the superintendent into doing his bidding.

He is truly the Tabasco sauce on the hemmorhoid of the backside of this city. PLEASE don’t elect this narcissist as our mayor!

  30. what’s the problem? sams caught you screwing off? sounds like a disgruntled employee that was sitting on her/his butt for years and was offended when asked about their productivity. i’ll bet you are a big loser.

  31. Like I said before, the truth will not be heard. Only the propaganda that Sams and his disciples promote. The “big loser” comment is proof of that.

And, just for the record, he did not catch me “screwing off.” He doesn’t even know me. And even if he did, it is STILL ILLEGAL for a school board member to be involved in personnel issues. Period.

Actions speak louder than words. If you just read Sams’ website or listen to what he says, you think he’s an excellent candidate. Those of us with experience with his antics know the truth. Believe what you like, but the truth is out there. It’s just being squelched by TOP NOTCH educators who are afraid to be the target of a witch hunt.

  32. Look! Three comments all made at 10:16 AM. It’s almost as if Sams’ blogger is trying to create the illusion of several supporters when, in fact, there is simply one lonely person sitting behind one lonely PC, wondering how on earth he can put a positive spin on his friend’s terrible performance last night.

(I’m an undecided voter, by the way. I have made one decision, though. I’m NOT voting for John Sams)

  33. I can tell you Sams won. You may not believe it due to your clear role in another campaign….but I am voting for Sams and my aunt is too.

  34. I can tell you Jacques won. You may not believe it due to your clear role in another campaign….but I am voting for Jacques and all my friends are too.

Gosh, I love copy and paste

  35. Sams was an arrogant ass. Who could stand to work with him or be around him for the next four years. I know I don’t want to look at him on the evening news for the next four years.

  36. Sams is a good person. Say what you need to in order to get your poltical punches in but he has done more for other people than anyone in this race.

  37. Yes, please name some things he has done FOR other people.

Oh, I know, he got Charlene Johnson that cushy job at Bolton, so she has time to work on her other job.

He got Cotrell Wrenn that cushy school board office job, where he also has time to work on his other endevors.

He also got Higgins a job, where it is appropriate (not) to wear a bear skin coat.

  38. Without naming names: Privately helped lady in worst neighborhood in town get her meds for two years before she could get anyone in government to help when she could not afford it. Wrote letters to help recent Vet get his operation when he was denied. Man is doing well now and working on a degree. Gave significant donation to two charity projects in town but refuses to accept or seek credit. Volunteer doctor for poor. Does volunteer work for underpriveledged. And on and on…he has done it for years but since you do not know him you would not know…and, for the record, this is just the beginning…he was doing charity work before one candidate was born.

  39. I heard he volunteers as a doctor because no one wants to be his patient.

This helps explain why he has time to be mayor and doctor.

  40. My mom is his patient. She loves him. My aunt is too. I know what they have experienced. He is direct and honest with them both but cares deeply.
