Alexandria should be proud of the legacy of Camille Gravelle. Throughout his career, he demonstrated to the entire nation the capacity of Southern whites to step out, risk their reputations, and fight for equality, and he made Alexandria a better place to call home because of his tenacity.
There’s a reason so many people have moved over to Jacques’ campaign during the past two weeks. Like his uncle Camille, he’s shown us a willingness to step out, risk his reputation and career, and fight for the changes we need.
It’s ridiculous to call him “part of the machine.” The machine is the old guard- the Provosty firm, the Albert and White Street crowd. Jacques was born in 1970. He’s too young to be a part of any machine.
He’s from a well-known family, granted, but so are hundreds of other people in Alexandria.
Roy’s never been a part of this network. You can group him with these people all you want to, but it’s still not true.
Roy is the best candidate for mayor. He is well qualified and obviously very dedicated. Roy will be open to the people of Alexandria on what they want, and he will listen to their opinions. Roy for mayor!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me thinketh Mr. Roy has almost been elevated to “being able to walk on water” status. I think all this gooy – goody two shoes shit is going to make eople suspicious of him. Everyone, except Roy, has good points as well as bad but it seems from all the Lamar Lover’s his single bad point is occasionally showing up with a tarnished halo.
He would probably be a part time mayor. He has his law practice, after all. On the other hand, he’s energetic, idealistic, and honest. He has the credentials to work with the council.
So what if Lamar believes that Roy is the right choice for Mayor of Alexandria. So what if he is friends with him. Lamar is entitled to his opinion just as much as the rest of us that post on his site. That’s right Lamar’s blog site. You people seem to forget that this site is owned by Lamar and he has just as much right to post on here as any of the rest of us do. At least Lamar starts new threads almost everyday here so we can load the comments in a timely fashion instead of waiting all day for it to load unlike the bunghole that runs antics. Everytime Lamar voices his opinion you people go crazy, How dare Lamar have an opinion. We live in a free country and everyone can voice their own opinion, you all may not agree with them but you should allow them to express it.
After careful deliberation, and studying the background and platform of each candidate, I would like to go on record and voice my support for Mr. Roy.
I also want to go on record and state the fact that we have more than one great candidate. Delores Brewer and Roosevelt Johnson are also very competent and worthy candidates. Although, after carefully considering the needs of Alexandria, I’ve decided Jacques Roy is going to complete these goals most efficiently and effectivly.
Not me. he lost me when he tried to copy all the issues Sams is running on. Seems like someone put him the race or that purpose but it will not work. After reviewing the candidates, I am voting for John Sams and ask every reader of this board to do the same.
How can you accuse Roy of “copying” Sams ideas. Alexandria’s weaknesses are Alexandria’s weaknesses. Sam’s didn’t come up with them on his own!!! Why should Roy, Brewer, or any other candidate compile a list of target areas that are different than Sams, if those are the obvious problems? Sams ideas are good….but i do not think i would accuse Roy of copying and pasting them, because it would have made NO sense for him to “choose” new issues when the most important ones are the obvious ones. This is not a national election where the candidates should choose a platform to run on. This is a local campaign where the candidates need to be ready to clean house.
Doesn’t it seem like the Sams campaign comes out with a new reason NOT to vote for Roy every day? Doesn’t it seem like these reasons are all a little ridiculous? First, there was Harold Chambers. Jacques responded. Harold’s not a part of the campaign and would not be a part of his administration. No ammunition there. Then, they went after Camille Gravel. That didn’t last long. Then, they went after Lamar. (On Cenla Antics). And now, they’re saying “Don’t vote for Jacques, because he’s just a copycat of Sams.”
If they’re so confident about poll numbers, then why do they appear to be scrambling for justification?
Truth told: Jacques Roy ruined Sams’ chances. People are going to wake up soon, hear what Jacques has to say, and realize that between Sams and Roy, both change candidates, Roy’s the best choice for our community. Sams’ so-called strength (that he started earlier than anyone else) will ultimately be his own undoing, as people become tired of his negativity and recognize that behind all the campaign handlers and the “good” PR, John Sams will always be John Sams. He’ll always be the candidate who believes he has difficulty getting down to the common person’s level.
Sams has not said one word about roy…sorry to deflate your bubble. Sams is running a positive campaign based on issues not personalities. Sams is doing what no one said he could…winning.
i can’t believe anyone would vote for a 35 year old that decided two weeks before qualifying, and zero political or charity work experience, to run for mayor.
35 is a great age. I found that my intelligence increased every year until age thirty five and as my children matured found myself less intelligent with each passing year until at 50, I am nearly a babbling idiot. I say Jacques is in his prime and am thankful that he is giving of himself to make a run for the office. He is going to experience a drop in income if he wins as well as subject himself to the slings and arrows of public life, so I applaud him for the effort as well as the other candidates for the efforts they are making. This race should be one of the most interesting in a long time and it is my wish that Jacque prevail.
Looking down the barrel of 50 years old gives new meaning to the question, “what happened?” It is a point where there is not doubt that there are fewer years ahead than are behind and every day becomes increasingly precious. Maybe “babbling idiot” was a bit strong. Enjoy the ride because it doesn’t last forever.
For the record, Jacques Roy has plenty of charity experience. He has been actively involved as a member of the board of directors of Central Louisiana AIDS Support Services for the past five years. If nothing else, respect his willingness to get involved in HIV/AIDS issues and the impact of the disease on Central Louisiana residents when most folks steer clear of this subject due to the stigma and discrimination associated with AIDS.
Instead of questioning each other on this blog, ask Jacques. Find out what charity work he has done. As he has stated many times.. he is ready to answer any question that a citizen of Alexandria may have. ROY FOR MAYOR!!!!
Why would the TT publish another campaign’s poll? Geez, the Sams bloggers are hilarious. If they don’t think Roy’s entrance into the race hurt Sams, they’ve got their heads in the sand. Of course it hurt Sams! One of the main reasons Roy decided to run is because of John Sams! Geez.
what difference does him being a “trial lawyer” make; and, how many lawyers do you know that do not appear in trial? I would really be interested in the answer considering it is part of their job, right? i know that there are certain fields of law that do not require court appearances, but the majority of them do. if you are a “trial” lawyer that would mean that you go to court and defend your client and are able to stand up for what is right in this world and do your damn best to see that justice is done for your client. i have seen jacques at work as a “trial” lawyer and can tell you that he is very good at what he does and would highly recommend him and his services. now again, please explain to me why being a trial lawyer makes a difference. would you rather he be of some other educated profession and if so, which one. we can’t base our judgments of people based on their job. that screams discrimination. maybe next time the “mayor” of your dreams will have just come from behind the counter at mcdonalds.
Again, I don’t know who is making up this stuff about Jacques being a member of the trial lawyer’s association. He is NOT.
However, rhetorically, the previous poster makes a good point: What exactly do these detractors mean by the term “trial lawyer?” Does it mean a lawyer who goes to trial? Or do you mean to imply that a trial lawyer is an ambulance chaser? (Which Jacques certainly is not).
Again, I ask: Where do you get this stuff? It seems to me that you’re just making it up and hoping that it’ll stick.
The unfortunate thing about people that dislike “trial” lawyers is that they have labeled all lawyers as “trial” lawyers. The best thing about trial-lawyer-haters is that they most assuredly will have to call on one of these “outcasts/dregs of society” to help them with their legal problems. Don’t be a hater.
If you don’t know what your talking about then be quiet!!! I am so sick and tired of people posting comments on here and they have NO idea what they are talking about!! Jacques the VOTE!!!
why don’t you all try really hard and listen to the FACTS. Jacques a VERY intelligent man,he wants what is best for our city and we really need that person NOW !!! we are losing business and lots of people here everyday. he wants what is best for our children, grandchildren etc. he cares—bottom line and he WANTS to work with the people–yeah–you and me to get these things done. as for the bickering over the trial lawyer–who cares?–have none of you ever needed representation to defend or protect yourself whatever the reason? i’m just asking you to look around– a full time mayor–who cares about you and me,all of us–it’s now or never guys!!!!! Jacques the vote!!!! good luck Jacques you are the man for the job!!!!
Did well on the video blog.. shows promise.
too green and too machine-camille gravelle II
agree-smacks of good old boy savy-which got us here.
Jacques is our only chance.
Alexandria should be proud of the legacy of Camille Gravelle. Throughout his career, he demonstrated to the entire nation the capacity of Southern whites to step out, risk their reputations, and fight for equality, and he made Alexandria a better place to call home because of his tenacity.

I agree with Businessman, Camile Gravel was a fine person and a credit to the human race.
He would probably be a part time mayor. He has his law practice, after all. On the other hand, he’s energetic, idealistic, and honest. He has the credentials to work with the council.
Roy’s honest. He’s smart. He’s driven. He’s the right choice. He won’t be a part-time mayor. He’s already made that absolutely clear.
Jacques was campaigning in West Point tonight. He seems like he is the right man for the job.
He is already the Mayor. Lamar annointed him.
Is he kin to them?
Nope.
yep
he would be a good chief of staff.
But a much better mayor.
“He is already the Mayor. Lamar annointed him.”
So what if Lamar believes that Roy is the right choice for Mayor of Alexandria. So what if he is friends with him. I heard sams speak yesterday and refused to say anything negative about his opponents.
I was there too. Sams is a lot better speaker than when he started out and has the best message.
i can’t believe anyone would vote for a 35 year old that decided two weeks before qualifying, and zero political or charity work experience, to run for mayor.
What are you talking about?
What’s wrong about being 35?
Jacques has plenty of charity experience. Do you know what his wife does for a living?
Jacques already proven himself. He’s one of the main reasons the COA found out about the Cleco case.
We need a change. My vote’s for Roy.
I just can’t get over the “charity experience” line. Who wrote this? Does this person know the type of cases Jacques takes on?
Ridiculous.
PS: Sams isn’t winning. Delores is.
35 is a great age. I found that my intelligence increased every year until age thirty five and as my children matured found myself less intelligent with each passing year until at 50, I am nearly a babbling idiot. a babbling idiot, you say? great! I see what i have to look forward to! Those darn kids!

Fact: Delores was hurt badly by JR entry into race.
Fact: Poll will show who is leading and it is not DB…not since the day JR entered the race.
ethics matter.
vote jacques
Jacques Rocks, Obvious choice for change.
sams won the debate. roy did second best.
Sams clearly won. Believe it. Even the papers is reporting he was the one with details and told it like it is.
Sams was dead on when he mentioned drugs.
Plus he gave details and issues.
Oh, look! The one lonely Sams supporter made two comments at 10:17 AM. Read the John Sams thread for further proof.
OMG! are you freakin kidding me.
Was I the only one who heard his obvious racist comment about lynching?
If so, please correct me. PLEASE!
Jacques won
Vote Jacques
Sams impressed me.
the type of cases jacques takes has nothing to do with his personal life nor his involvement with charities. that is too harsh!
I don’t care who speaks better. Dr. Sams is a tyrant. He’d make this city a laughingstock…again. I’m voting for Roy. He’s sharp.
Instead of questioning each other on this blog, ask Jacques. Find out what charity work he has done. As he has stated many times.. he is ready to answer any question that a citizen of Alexandria may have. ROY FOR MAYOR!!!!
Jacques The Vote!!!!!
is there somewhere that provides the latest poll results??
Should be coming out on Sunday or Monday if TT releases:
(finding heavy undecided/conducted Mon/Tues/Wed–Roy entrance cut into Brewer base most-Johnson and Sams show growth)
Johnson 21
Sams 19
Brewer 12
Roy 10
Smith 8
Hammond 3
undecided 27
3.5% margin of error/MRI
Don’t you think Johnson hurt himself by missing the forum?? Isn’t that a snub to the black clubs that held the forum??
Why would the TT publish another campaign’s poll? Geez, the Sams bloggers are hilarious. If they don’t think Roy’s entrance into the race hurt Sams, they’ve got their heads in the sand. Of course it hurt Sams! One of the main reasons Roy decided to run is because of John Sams! Geez.
is JR a trial lawyer? they said that on one of the threads? if so…forget it.
no way in hell I am voting for trial lawyer.

abraham lincoln was a trial lawyer.

he is a trial lawyer. I could care less what association he is in…
No, he isn’t. You’re plain wrong, and you continue to misrepresent the facts. What campaign are you working for?
Just let him go Lamar. No convincing a hater.
waterslide is correct – such people are not worth it. we know jacques and we know that he is an honorable person. that is good enough for me.
JACQUES THE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don’t know what your talking about then be quiet!!! I am so sick and tired of people posting comments on here and they have NO idea what they are talking about!! Jacques the VOTE!!!
very well said – bravo!!

why is it hate to not support a trial lawyer? it is a simple right to support who you choose.
