Northside Journal and the Alexandria Mayoral Election

For those of you unfamiliar with the Northside Journal, they’ve become a steady and passionate voice of reason. Unfortunately, they’re north of the river, and as such, they rarely cover Alexandria’s news. (I join the chorus of others who wish they’d change their name to the Rapides Journal and cover the entire parish). Anyway, here’s their take on the Alexandria mayoral election. It’s pretty straightforward. Download here. (Thanks WeSawThat)

Excerpts:

“Of the ‘serious 6,’ there are two candidates who have no connection with the previous administration, three who are deeply embedded with the current city regime, and one candidate who has served on the Rapides Parish Police Jury. The three are part of the septic tank that city hall has become.

“Charles Fredrick Smith, Delores Brewer, and Roosevelt Johnson have all played their part in the decline and we can expect nothing more than a continuation of the status quo if any of the three become mayor. They ooze backroom deals and shady appointments. They hire family members as high priced consultants. They use their position for personal gain at the expense of the taxpayer.”

The article then discusses the differences between the two “outsiders,” Jacques Roy and John Sams.

“If Sams devotes the required amount of time to cleaning up the mess at city hall, he neglects his patients and violates his Hippocratic oath. I wonder what type of man could so easily discard such an ingrained part of his professional responsibility. If he upholds his responsibility to his patients, the voters who placed their faith in him won’t be getting what they voted for. Dr. Sams is faced with quite a dilemma.”

“Last we have Jacques Roy. We can find no reason to believe that he will continue the circus that Alexandria City Hall has become. With his legal training, we assume he knows the scope of a mayor’s authority, and the best way to put the brakes on a runaway city council.”

  1. I would like to extend my humble apologies to the citizens to the north of the Red River for the stench that is drifting your way from the conduct of our city business. We are busy cleaning up the mess and hope to not let it happen again. As advice, I would offer the wisdom of drinking plenty of coffee. Health experts are discovering the healthful effects as well as there are social ramifications to consuming the beverage in groups of two or more as the participants tend to engage in dialogue and discover common interest that can be nurtured to the benefit of all as well as discovering the misdeeds of their elected officals.

  2. You know Sams is really making headway and the funny thing about that part time BS is that there are docs everywhere serving all over the place that are outstanding…like the Mayor of Marksville and scores more. Just the other day there was a major positive write up about the Mayor of Marksville….and of course he kept his patients.

    Sams is my choice. Period.

  3. I haven’t really noticed Sams making much headway. He put his signs all over the damn place a few months ago. That’s about it. It’ll be great to hear him in the debates.

  4. Beware, he is doing it subliminally while continuing his practice. The positive side of having an enormous head is that you can conduct your medical practice and devote the other half of your brain to mind control tasks without others noticing.

  5. In the very first poll after qualifying…Sams is tied with Roosevelt in overnight poll. Brewer is falling and Roy is simply part of the old network which dropped him out of top three.

  6. What “old network” is Roy part of. He has never been involved in politics before running for Mayor? Please enlighten us oh great one.

  7. ALL Roy has to do is beat Sams and Brewer. Should be a piece of cake. White guy wins the run off whichever one it is…….

  8. If worse comes to worst, at least Roosevelt has a college education. Smiff has only a high school diploma and he wants to run a $165 million dollar company!? Please! I think there’s another candidate who only has a high school diploma. I can’t imagine how they can even consider that they have what it takes to be mayor.
