The Town Talk to CenLamar: You Need Prior Written Approval. Otherwise, We’re Calling Our Lawyers.

Dear Mr. White:

It has come to my attention that you are currently in violation of copyright law by displaying a photograph of Jacques Roy announcing his candidacy for Mayor photographed by Town Talk staff member Doug Collier on your website http://cenlamar.blogspot.com.

As you do not have prior written authorization from The Town Talk to use the photograph, I must insist that you remove the photo from your website (http://cenlamar.blogspot.com) immediately.

We are pleased that you found the photograph valuable and wished to share it with your readers. In the future, should you wish to reprint something photographed by a Town Talk staff member, the proper procedure is to contact our Executive Editor Paul Carty and request permission to reprint the content. He has the final say on what may and may not be used by other publications, and decisions are made on a case by case basis. His e-mail address is pcarty@thetowntalk.com and his phone number is 318-487-6370.

Regarding stories posted on our website, you are welcome to post a direct link to any story on our site, provided the link is not framed or done in anyway that would make it unclear that the content is from The Town Talk (http://www.thetowntalk.com).     Lamar…looks like you got your pee pee wacked by the Town Talk. I think this is just another example of Gannett’s desire to completely control the news market. How can they prove that you didn’t follow Doug around and take the same pictures he did. What a bunch of paranoid people they must be.

    Hey, let them sue or whatever they are threatening to do. It is OBVIOUS that they ONLY decided to write you when you came out in support for a NON BREWER candidate. The exposure from their alleged threat will go a long way to expose more than just the coporate connections of this rag and one of the candidates

    Lamar, let the Clown Talk sue you. At some point, they would have to show that they suffered some damages (i.e. loss in circulation, revenues, etc.) Surely that cannot be attributed to you. That, instead, can be attributed to the crappy news coverage, which, with the exception of Billy Gunn, is nonexistent.

    Wouldn’t it be interesting, however, to hear what is said under oath in the depositions that would be taken? The names that would turn up in the web of deceipt and lies revolving around the TT/Alexandria politics circle would be enlightening and interesting, and just a shitload of fun for all of us watching this sideshow.

    Their “corporate legal counsel” – not scary and not that impressive.

    To answer your question on copyright, the law is can not be duplicated without the consent of the book author. Now, Photo not yet published is an issue, because it was on their website as I understand. Laws are going to need to get up to speed with the internet times.

    Another question to anyone:
    Re; the newspaper
    Is it right for the TT to print allegations against the police without later printing the truth in a later edition. This was done repeatedly after the forum demanded by black leaders, reverends, NAACP, POWER groups.

    It really makes you wonder how much POWER these groups have with the TT. Hmmmmmmm! C.C.

    Wonderin, I never have, as you say pick and choose, just voicing my views on a picture anyone could quite easily snap with their own camera. Laws are in place to obey, some need clarification.

    Now, what about your views on past history of the TT. No one seems to want to comment on a very important issue of blatant misuse of ink and paper. Remember, I saved all issues from 1997-2004.

    The TT has many faults, mainly that they’re owned by liberally controlled Gannett. Ron Grant should have been let out to pasture long ago and not allowed to keep writing his waco ravings.

    I don’t know the local players well enough to speak to that. I wish the TT would hold the council’s feet to the fire but I don’t see that happening much.

    Wonderin, I agree with you on all your statements in regard to Gannett, Ron Grant, and TT holding councils feet to the fire. Thats why their past and now present reporting of the news is very weird. I know with the new CEO, which I might add was strange( a change over night) but their restraint in reporting the news is extremely odd.

    In the past, there would be no hesitation on the TT part to ruin, who ever disagreed with them, or accusations made against someone in public office ,to blast them. Guns blazing, no holes barred type journalism. VERY STRANGE HUHHH!

    I think the local blogs have been instrumental in urging the TT to be more responsive to the public needs/wants. More people seem to be interested, or at least that’s what it seems like to me.

    Sonny is absolutely telling the truth…but left out a few details. Sonny had a deal lined up to book gas through a reputable company at a price of somwhere around $6.00 / 1000cf.

    Hobbs and several other councilmen tried to get Sonny to book it through one of their buddies. After a little research, the administration determined that the company most likely couldn’t deliver what they were promising and decided to go with Sonny’s original recommendation.

    At that point the council decided not to approve the gas contract until their guy got it. Then came the Katrina and Rita, gas prices went through the roof and the City was forced to buy gas on a mnothly basis at current market prices. That is why the City of Alexandria utility bills where so high last winter.

    Those of us who are fortunate and wise enough to live in Pineville were nice and warm in our houses and had utility bills that were comparable to past winters.

    How absurd. Anything the town talk publishes is distorted toward the personal aggrandizement of their employees and gannet company. (mr. gunn included) their reporting is replete with intentional misstatements, omission of fact and outright lies. this letter is just another example of the behavior begun under John iwannabe randolph hearse newhouse. we absolutely need another source of news in this community to emphasize the positive rather than dredging up as much muck as possible. I am for roy, but he does have the clown talk in his pocket as evidenced by the completely misleading stories on the cleco mess.( Now i know you will all say cleco is guilty of wrongdoing, but stop and think where you have gotten your info on the topic…the clown talk’s sheer volume of misstatements and omissions on a very complex topic concerning over ten years of contracts) they will turn on him though once he is elected. he is now the only viable alternative. It is a mystery why they came after lamar on this issue…perhaps time will tell what the new agenda is beyond shutting down any competition. lamar, you should start a real paper in response to this. i believe with proper promotion it would succeed and bring more balance and perhaps a hint of truth which any decent community deserves from its media. fight the good fight.

    I have known Sonny Craig for a while now. I have never known him to be a liar or a “shady” person. He has always been a gentleman and seemed to have the best interest of the city at heart. I don’t for one minute believe Hobbs on any of this. Sonny got a “raw deal”.
