Jacques Roy for Mayor Throughout the past five…

Jacques Roy for Mayor

Throughout the past five months, I have been reading and writing about the issues that face Central Louisiana on a daily basis. Like many of you, I have also been imminently interested in the upcoming Alexandria mayoral race. On numerous occassions, I have stated my belief that this is the most important election we’ve faced in twenty years.

As a result of my interest, I have been afforded with the opportunity to meet with and listen to most of the current candidates. While I believe that they each possess their own unique set of skills and talents, ultimately, there is one candidate who clearly demonstrates the ability to lead Alexandria into the future: Jacques Roy.

I recognize that I had previously stated I would not express my opinions until after the debates. But things changed. A new candidate entered the fold, someone with optimism, motivation, and passion for the future of our community, someone who understands the problems we face, and someone with an authentic, unselfish desire to solve these problems. This is not to suggest that the other candidates are not equally motivated; however, Mr. Roy stands out to me as the obvious choice.

As such, I will be actively campaigning for Jacques Roy. It’s important for readers to know this from the beginning. I believe that Mr. Roy represents our best chance at full-forced change and reform, and I am looking forward to sharing his message.

The blog will continue to function the same way it always has. It will include news items, commentary, polls, and reader’s letters. It will continue to be open to anyone with an opinion. In short time, Mr. Roy will be launching his own website, and questions about his campaign should be directed there.

I may be a republican but I can see that Mr. Roy is the only viable candidate I could vote for. He is young and not in the city government. I thought about voting for Delores but her “mis-speaks” have made me feel like we would get more of the same in this city if she is elected. It is time for a change in this city and Mr. Roy seems to be the viable only candidate for this change.

    Biff,
Are you just an agitationist? Ribs & matso balls don’t mix too well, got any suggestions for the tummy.

  6. biff Avatar

spanky….look into my eyes…you are getting sleepy, very sleepy….your eyelids are heavy…..you want to vote for sams.

  7. Spanky Avatar

Hey, knock it off with the hypno-glasses. What are ya trying to do, get in touch with my Republican side. It’s not fair to take advantage of someone in a weakened state.

I think Chambers support of Roy only signals yet even another faction that will NOT be voting for Brewer. Do not forget that Chambers was a vital part of the Randolph political machine for these past years and you can bet he will be taking many of those Randolph supporters with him to the Roy Camp. Supporters Brewer had to be counting on . Yet another brick in the wall against Brewer.

Sams is getting my vote and that of my family andfriends. He offers new ideas, new approach and the highest level of accountability.
Lamar seemed to know that from what I have seen and heard in the past. My feeling is Sams offers what many are looking for but there is a hesitancy to get on board for past history reasons. Sams has shown me something in this race and that is he has a great deal to offer. One thing I will say is that in church this Sunday all the talk was about Sams and how he had impressed people.

  10. Anonymous Avatar

Ditto-Sams will run it right and is ten times what I expected at this point.

  11. Anonymous Avatar

I never did like Brewer so I see Roy as really taking her momentum.

  12. Anonymous Avatar

Sams is only running for his own ego. He neither expects to win nor will he win. Being a pain in the ass has become his medal of honor in a life filled with being picked last on the playground.

  13. Anonymous Avatar

I would disagree. Sams has not shown that in this race. He appears to me to be very serious and at least one poll had him tied for the lead with Roosevelt Johnson last week according to the guys at the Town Talk who saw the poll. I am not sure if they will publish it. Jacques Roy was in the poll and was much further down.

  14. Anonymous Avatar

Sams has shown that he can do it and will be very formidable. Regardless of what the bloggers want you to beleive. The big dogs are coming off Brewer and moving to Sams and as stated on here possibly to Roy.

  15. we saw that... Avatar

only 53 more days till election day.

What day does the mud slinging start? Is it possible for the local media to put together a multi-session debate on several dates and where would I buy tickets?

  17. Anonymous Avatar

    Go Jacques!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Anonymous Avatar

ALEXANDRIA NEEDS ME?…..NOT ANY FRICKEN MORE SAMS, we have a real candidate NOW.

  19. Civil Sentient Avatar

    I revise my prediction.

    Roy Vs. Johnson

  20. Anonymous Avatar

SAMS v BUFFET LINE AT FIRE MOUNTAIN

  21. biff Avatar

alexandria does need sams. we need someone with the backbone to make a complete regime change. roy will pick up 8-11% tops, mostly rat’s jumping off the brewer boat, worried sick that after 20 years they may have to make money the hard way, and not of the public teat.

  22. Anonymous Avatar

Sams HAS a backbone. Well how deep under that Blubber IS it? Vote for Sams all you want. Its obvious his own party is not supporting him but holding Coffees for his Repblican counterpart Mispeak Brewer

  23. biff Avatar

i’m not totally convinced this election will be decided on party lines. i think it will devolve on personalities or who the public decides is the best person for the job. and in my humble opinion that person is sams.

  24. Anonymous Avatar

Sams is running the best race.

  25. Anonymous Avatar

Let’s see –Sam’s is running as a “change” candidate, Roy is running as a “change” candidate- I don’t know, but common sense tells me that Roy will take votes away from Sams rather than Brewer.

  26. Anonymous Avatar

Perhaps You are just a dirty “MISS SPEAKER”

  27. biff Avatar

it will be very interesting to see how roy’s candidacy impacts sams and delores. roy won’t make the run-off but his votes will come from either sams or delores.

  28. Tipper Avatar

My only concern about Roy is what I’ve heard from friends that work in law offices (not lawyers but staff). Word is that Roy is pretty arrogant. That won’t sit well with the “common folk”. He’ll have to change his demeanor to get traction outside of the well-heeled crowd.

  29. Anonymous Avatar

Sams is running as a solid clean up the corruption type candidate and seems to be gaining momentum.

Roy is a dem and will take white dems off of other dems to a degree and will take progressive young people off brewer.

Roy is also seen as part of the old boy network reborn…is he Camille Gravelle’s nephew?

  30. Civil Sentient Avatar

Well I’ll have to say that Roy presents the best choice. Now all I have to do is figure out how to activly support him without breaking the law. Sometimes being an honest civil servant has it’s drawbacks.

  31. Anonymous Avatar

Perhaps Roy is unable to mute his brilliance and amazing superiority like WunderSams, Genius can be such a burden.

  32. Spanky Avatar

Civil, good to see you. I will pick up your slack if you can’t find a way. Jacque is accessible as people will come to find. Naturally, God only gave him 24 hours a day too and folks should not feel snubbed if he cannot get to them immediately. I feel confident, of all candidates, that he can reach across all cultural and age barriers and believe he can galvanize our community to support him. It’s not about him anyway. It’s about our community. Anytime a public servant places community interest first, the right thing follows. I am expressing my observations and distillation of opinions that I have encountered as well as my gut feeling. I am going to work for him because I believe he will work for us. This is his town too, so his fortune is on the line also. There is little worse than high profile failure if you intend to remain in a community. All BS aside, I am out at the first sign of illicit collusion or abuse. Just so folks know, the mayor or council members may be removed for cause by any citizen filing suit in the proper jurisdiction. My question is, have any of the council members given any orders or instructions to any city department head or employee? If so, they can be removed from office and i will take the initiative to make it happen. Any info is welcome. Post anonymously

  33. biff Avatar

can someone tell me what qualifies roy for mayor?

  34. Civil Sentient Avatar

What qualifies Roy? He’s none of the others in the race.

  35. Anonymous Avatar

Please do not vote for Mr. Roy. I’d rather have Albin Provosty run Alexandria via Delores Brewer…

    a practicing lawyer

  36. Civil Sentient Avatar

Why not vote for Roy? Albin and Ken have been running the city and it isn’t pretty. If you have some information, please share it. No I’m not being snide, I’m asking for any information that might help in making an informed choice.

Spanky, councilmen “suggest” things to department heads and other classified workers often. Rather they did until a few weeks ago. Perhaps they just went under the radar? Now getting employees to actually come out in public about such things is difficult as the council has no qualms about spanking anyone with the nerve to buck them. This payback comes in several forms. One of the favorite is to question why certain jobs are needed. Not because of what the job entails but who is in the position. Another is to get Ned to change the budget deleting needed equipment, job openings or upgrading positions. Then there is the election year witch hunts dealing with vehicle use, time sheets, not enough production, discrimination in work done in the “rich” areas and negelecting the “poor”. All this is done for chest thumping look at me media ops. They also put the screws to department heads to “take care” of problem employees. Anyone who claims all this is untrue is a lier.

I wonder if it would be a violation if I wore one of those Roy for Mayor tee shirts to work? At least it wouldn’t be boring! 🙂

  39. Spanky Avatar

Civil, I have witnessed the behaviour that you describe. They may have gotten around to reading this part of the code recently.

    Sec. 2-07. Prohibitions.
    (A) No councilman shall hold any other city office or city employment during the term for which he was elected to the council, and no former councilman shall hold any compensated appointive city office or city employment until one year after the expiration of the term for which he was elected to the council.
    (B) Neither the council nor any of its members shall in any manner dictate the appointment or removal of any city administrative officers or employees whom the mayor or any of his subordinates are empowered to appoint, except as provided elsewhere in this charter.
    (C) Except for the purpose of inquiries and investigations under section 2-08, the council or its members shall deal with city officers and employees who are subject to the direction and supervision of the mayor solely through the mayor, and neither the council nor its members shall give orders to any such officer or employee, either publicly or privately.
    (D) Any citizen, including city employees, may bring suit in a court of proper jurisdiction against the mayor or any councilman for violation of provisions of this section.

There is enough discussion on tape at committee meetings with employees to kick in this section and clean house. All it is going to take is a few depositions to get a court order to vacate office. I am going to pursue it after the election so they don’t have enough votes to appoint a confederate (no pun intended). That should take care of CFS for sure.

  40. Anonymous Avatar

We get calls all the time from councilmen giving us direction to do this or that. They have been allowed to do this by the current administration though. No City employee is going to refuse to talk to a councilmen without some assurances from the administration that they will be protected. Roosevelt and CFS are the most flagrant violators. Roosevelt even makes lists of thing he wants done and hands them out. If you stand up to them they will cut your budget, deny your requests for equipment, stall personnel requests, and numerous other things that make it impossible to do the job you were hired to do. We need a strong Mayor who will stand up to these criminals and protect the City.

  41. Spanky Avatar

Not really. Any citizen can file suit for removal. They have done it. All that need to be done is file suit. There is no ambiguity as to what happens. After the election, I am going to clean their clocks.

  42. Civil Sentient Avatar

Spanky, you oughta let me buy you a cup of coffee sometime.

I saw the blog interview with Roy. He did a decent job. He was smooth. Of course, that’s what lawyers do for a living. It’s just like performing on the stage or for the camera. He happens to be talented in that area. He thinks well on his feet. That, however, does not mean he will be a good mayor. He needs more maturity. Just because he is representing someone in a lawsuit and handles himself well on camera makes him a good candidate for mayor?? I don’t think so.

  45. Anonymous Avatar

No offense scarlett but how in the hell would you know if he needs more maturity or not? Exactly.. you don’t so keep your mouth shut about things you obviously don’t know!!!

  46. jaminphx Avatar

No offense Anonymous but how the hell would you know what Scarlett knows about Roy? Exactly you don’t, so follow your own advise and shut the hell up and come out from hiding. You sound like a typical liberal, in that you have no tolerance for other’s beliefs or opinions! Furthermore she doesn’t hide behind an anonymous handle like you do!
