Jacques Roy Makes It Official
Apparently, Mr. Roy’s lunchtime announcement drew a larger than expected crowd of supporters.

Update: I recently received an e-mail from Mr. Roy. He’d like to make it clear that, despite rumors to the contrary, he is committed to serving as a full-time mayor. Mr. Roy writes:

I will be full time, to my own financial detriment, to “do the right thing” and keep my promise. The charter requires a full time mayor, and the town deserves it.

  1. It was great. I had NO idea there would be that many people there based upon the showing at the other annouuncement.I had to park 2 blocks away. There was at least 300 people standing in the hot sun.. I think the most impressive thing I heard was that he was about change. That is something NONE of the other candidates can really say. Not a one of the others comes from outside of Government but from within. The crowd was a good cross section of black white older and young. In fact this is the first announcement Ive been to that had ANY young people. I have to tell you, I came away from this event with much much hope for the future . Hope Ive not had before today. Go Roy!

  2. It was a huge crowd. The location was not big enough. He should have had it somewhere else. I saw at least two of Brewers big fans there so im wondering if they have spies or if they are riding the fence. Or about to change horses.

  3. I didnt stop but I did drive by and I was totally shocked at the number of people there. Unbelievable!!! So much for any fear of getting into this race late.

  4. That sound of something getting very small….its Brewer. What a waste of her money and her time. Get on board Delores . I say this with true respect. You do yourself and your supporters and that Broussard guy disservice by continuing. You should try to cut yourself a deal and bow out gracefully. Its much more noble to say that you were running to make a difference but that was before a candidate who shares your ideals entered the race rather than putting your friends on the spot.

  5. Give me a break here. Just support the person you support without trying to demean the others. All of this nonsense about Delores pulling out of the race is just that…..nonsense. Let the race begin.

  6. Scarlett,
Tell her good luck, work hard, hug her neck for me, and don’t cry when it’s over because she tried.

    Love
    Spanky

  7. Sometimes a friend has to break bad news to someone if they really care about them .Scarlett, its time to break the news to your friend. It was hers to lose and she blew it several weeks ago before she even qualified. You would be doing her a BIG favor to be honest with her about her chances and about how this campaign is going to be for her and for her family. IF you are really her friend and not just using her to make sure you have a nice Republican Candidate. You still got Jabba the Hut.

  8. Why do you think the “rumors” were so rampart that her campaign was dead? Because it smells of death , those who say they support her walk with blank stares and have to make excuses for her, her out of state campaign CZAR and her rich controlling friends at Provosty. The tail wags the dog in her campaign and EVEN her supporters say so. If you are even allowed into her “inner circle of handlers” then ask them to tell Delores to leave the room and ask everyone to be honest about their belief in Delores the candidate and about her chances. I think you will see what those of us who deal with her supporters everyday already know. They just do not belive in her as a candidate…..Truth sometimes hurts. It might not be Roy but it sure as hell is not going to be Brewer….

  9. When you come to think of it Who would we actually be electing IF we were to elect Delores Brewer as mayor? She did what the Provostiaites told her to do when she worked at mayors office. When conflict came her way she was all on her own and what did she do?? Li..uh…”miss spoke”….when she decides to run, who tells her what to do , when to do? Same Sadler/Provosty experts And an out of state political expert. WHo would tell her what to do and when to do it IF she were elected? NOT her self that is for sure. Best way to predict the future is to review the past. Her friends know it that is why so many are so luke warm in support for her. It is definitely time for a change at City hall. Even Brewers consultant has her saying that . Unfortunately, SHE is part of the process at City Hall that needs to be changed….I would have to vote for Sams before I could vote for more of what is going on at city hall right now.

  10. Jacques just publicy announced his majoral running and look how many people are backing him– amazing!!

  11. Brewer is having a coffee in the morning after qualifying. Is that to wake up or sober up her main “supporter”?

  12. Why not TEA. See, the problem with Delores campaign is that HER supporters are rich junior league, garden district lawyers wives who can actually GO to a Coffee in the middle of the morning WHEN most of the electorate is WORKING. You know work? That thing most of us have to do to pay for all the SHIT Alexandria City Govt has spent under the Brewer/Randolph/Provosty Years.

  13. Why bring up Junior League?? If you knew anything, you would know that most junior league women WORK. Times have changed. Last years president worked FULLTIME as at P&G. I think she is an engineer.

  14. I don’t think people should comment on this blog and critize the junior league for one thing. Those women do a lot for this community and most of them actually are hard working women.

  15. These are sexist remarks by people who think the best man for a job is always a man. Crawl out of the past and into the 21st century. I know this comes as a surprise to many of you, but women can chew gum and walk at the same time.

  16. Scarlett, I totally agree with you, and while walking and chewing gum they can also babble incessantly with no connected coherant thought which utterly amazes me. It must be a Venusian trait.
