  1. patrick moore: the plan is at a very preliminary level. “There is a lot of study that still has to be done about this,” he said.

translation: after i suck up 3,4,5 hundred thousand dollars ++ in perpetual studies and so forth the plan will be junked.

  2. Bridgette and Myron need the fees from another bond issue. This looks like the project that will put (more) taxpayer money in their pockets.

  3. While such a place could be an asset to Alex, when is the council and Admin going to wake the f up and fix the water, sewer, storm drains, streets, address crime in a realistic way, find their morals and actually do something besides shout Hey! Look what I did???

Yea I’m aggrevated. I can only eat so much bread and I’ve been to the circus too many times.

  4. Will they combine this money pit with the water park? Lamar, is full frontal lobotomy for this idiotic council a choice on a future online poll?

If someone truly “followed the money”, there could eventually be a quorum for the meetings to be held in prison.

  5. Sports arena, I agree with you. verry bad idea. More money spent unwisely. Wasn’t Moore let go on the Johnny Downs project.

    D. Williamson worked hard on trying to clean up the foundry.
I still do not understand why he was fired. C.C.

  6. Also, this idea of Lawsons is a political way to get the black vote. In one of the council meetings blacks in the area complained about this foundry.

Just a thought, he must need to improve his image in that area.

  7. Follow the money is right! It could be a good project, we do need a new sports facility, but who trusts this city council? Remember the condo-on-top-of-the-downtown-parking-lot caper? (you did not need to be a engineer to know that would not work!) I agree with civil, the council needs to focus on a thorough assessment and correction of our infrastructure.

  8. It is “back to the basics” time in Alexandria. Focus on infrastructure and proper delivery of services in the most cost efficient manner possible. Once we have our crime and livability stats high on the charts, investment capital will be attracted. I will get the city out of the investment/speculation mode and hone service delivery with an eye toward tax reduction.

  9. Building a sports arena downtown seems akin to our state morons building lakes and reservoirs and calling it economic development. Idiotic!

  10. I gave Myron more credit than to pull such a stunt on the verge of an election. May Dr. Slatkin reap the windfall of the “no more BS” vote. It just goes to show how intoxicating a little power is to some and who can hold their liquor.

  11. Lamar, please let the powers that be read this blog! They need to see what people are saying. Can’t the dipshit* find something else to do besides wasted out time and money on hopeless “economic development”? Don’t they know that downtown is a pointless venture? Ask yourself: would you but your money into a business downtown?
I cannot deal with the crooks on the council anymore!!! They need to be addressed and shutdown! How much money has the city spent in the last three years on “studies”? I’ll bet a sh*t load! They need to held to the fire!!!

  12. It’s a wonderful idea and a wonderful location. the muggers won’t need to take the bus all the way to the mall for purse snatching.

  13. maybe the city can work out a deal to split the gate proceeds with the various mugger factions.

  14. All who detest this complete waste of tax funds should go to the next council meeting and protest this bullshi*!!!!!!
    Who’s with me????

  15. Town Talk web page:

Alexandria City Council District 2 incumbent Everett Hobbs will not run unopposed in the September primary election, drawing as an opponent lawyer Darrell Hickman.

Hickman, a public defender in 9th Judicial District Court, said he’ll qualify to run next week because young people in the South Alexandria district have no parks or programs to occupy them after classes and when school is not in session.

  16. The Council doesn’t care what we think. They proved that when they renigged on their deal with Ranson and their promise to the neighborhood groups and appointed Harry “won’t run next year” Silver.

The place to show up is at the voting booth.

  17. The council would have ya’ll escorted out of the building for having the gall to question the great minds on the Sports Arena/Water Park/Hazardous Waste Dump. The only thing that will stop that is massive negative publicity. Thats going to be hard to generate as the PC crowd will holler about keeping the Lower Third area poor. It won’t matter that the location is poor, the cost will be outrageous, and the toxic waste will make you glow.

On another note. Why didn’t CFS do something about the poor parks in his district for the past 16 years he’s been on the council?

  18. Da’ man bin holdin him back cuz evertime they gits promised money, da’ man take it. It’s time fo ours.

  19. Here’s the catch on the Foundry – KCS owns the site. The neighborhood has to agree to what degree they want the site deemed “clean” and KCS has to agree to spend the $$$ to clean it to that level – commercial, industrial, residential, etc. and meet the approval of EPA in the end.

In the beginning the neighborhood wanted one thing and there were hold outs – some older people who were not in agreement. KCS has not agreed to spend the money to clean the site, which is why it sits there untouched.

Using this site for the arena is a pipe dream at this point.
