Jacques Roy To Announce Candidacy For Mayor Of Alexandria

From the Town Talk:

Alexandria lawyer Jacques Roy will announce officially his candidacy for mayor at noon Aug. 7 in a field next to his office at 1100 Martin Luther King Drive.

Roy, 35 and a Democrat, will become the fifth announced candidate to fill the office being vacated by five-term Mayor Ned Randolph. The primary election is Sept. 30, with a runoff if needed Nov. 7

Note: The original article incorrectly stated Mr. Roy’s announcement would take place next Tuesday; it will actually occur next Monday.

  1. I am not up on all this political crap, and I realize that there will be a debate. Is it possible that there could be several debates beginning as soon as the qualifying is over? I don’t believe that one can decide such an important decision over just a few debates. Lamar, why don’t you post some questions as you did before, and have all the candidates answer them at one time? This would be a great thing, but the restriction would be that they couldn’t talk about the others (as they are so apt to do).

  2. Lamar, please note Mr. Roy tells us his announcement will be Monday, August 7th at Noon in his office. The 8th is Tuesday.
Also a debate is in the works and we will announce our plans soon in conjunction with several area political groups.

  3. The Council of the City of Alexandria, State of Louisiana, was duly convened as the governing authority of said City by the Honorable Charles F. Smith, Jr., who stated that the Council was ready for the transaction of business.

Mr. Fowler moved for the adoption of the following resolution which was seconded by Mr. Marshall, to wit:

    RESOLUTION NO. 7833-2005.

A RESOLUTION APPOINTING MR. HARRY B. SILVER
TO SERVE THE REMAINING TERM OF
    COUNCIL DISTRICT 4 FOR THE
    CITY OF ALEXANDRIA.

The President called for any discussion. Several council members stated that they have known Mr. Silver for many years and that he is a very active person in the community and would represent District 4 well. Mr. Silver spoke a few words to the Council. There being no other discussion, a vote was called for and resulted as follows:

YEAS: Fowler, Marshall, Johnson, Lawson, Smith, Hobbs.
    NAYS: None.
    ABSENT: None.

The ordinance was thereupon declared adopted on this the 20th day of October, 2005.

  4. Thanks for the link to the resolution. Conspicuously absent is the much ballyhooed requirement by the council at the time of the appointment that the appointee would not seek the seat in the election. If there is a debate, that should be the first issue thrown out at Harry by the moderator. Are you listening, Michele?

  5. Which council seats are up for re-election? When Roosevelt and Smith lose the mayoral election, do they retain their seats?

  6. “That is a good question for mr fowler and mr marshall as well.”

Not just them, but the entire body of ass-clowns as a whole. They would all come unarmed to a battle of wits, but only after studying all night for a urine test.

  7. Myron’s at-large seat, Harry Silver’s seat, and Everett Hobbs seat are all up for re-election. If they lose, they go home. Smith and Johnson’s seats are not up for re-election. If they lose the Mayor’s race they get to stay on the Council. What a sweet deal!

  8. They all need to go. Do yourself a favor and watch the council meetings on channel 7. What an absolute joke! Half of them speak ebonics (what a suprise)! We need to completely clean house and start fresh if we are to improve our city.

  9. Ebonics and enough gold jewelry to give Fort knox a scare…seriously, it looks like pimp city if you look at all the bling they are wearing…who is bridgette farakan supporting?
