So I googled Roy and all I found was the NYtimes article on prison labor, cenlamar, and a comment he made in the clown talk about the cleco thing which I already knew but otherwise nothing.
Any anons out there willing to educate me a little more on the guy?
talk to his current and former clients and also people that work and have worked for him associates, paralegals, private investigators etc and check with the state bar and find out if there have been any complaints filed against him.
Jacques win/loss ratio has about as much to do with his potential as mayor or Dr. Sams infection rate has to do with his gift of administration. I suggest that instead of all of your deep background investigation, you talk to him and to people who know and support him. He’s a smart, decent, perhaps-too-idealistic guy who was happy lawyering until he got mixed up in the Cleco litigation and saw how rotten the city government was to the core. I’m sure he will get out of the Cleco suit and remove any other potential conflict. He’s easy to talk to and listen to and 1000% sincere. He has already done battle with Sanders and Brown and knows exactly what they are about. He and some other young professionals have been beating the bushes to find someone to run for mayor and, as in many other cases, he discovered that the only one that cared enough to do the job was HIM. Then he had to decide whether or not to jump in and put up with all the mud-slinging family-insulting, hate-baiting stuff. I guess he held his nose and said what the hell.
This is amazing. You get a smart clean unencumbered and unsullied democrat who’s entrance into the race is an obvious sacrifice on his part and you want to do an autopsy on him. OK. Fine. Delores is getting out and Sams can’t win so perhaps you can select so desirable CEO for our city from the remainder. I want to vote for a democrat and this is the only one I can vote for.
Prey tell what is wrong with learning all you can about someone that is running for office? Can you answer that without resorting to the party line? By that I mean the “quit asking questions and just vote like I tell you to” rant.
Mr. Roy just might be the best thing to happen to Alexandria in years. He’s already a batter choice than the current crop of candidates IMHO. However I am not alone in wanting to know quite a bit more than he’s young and a good guy.
Civil, if his win/loss/settle ratio (whateverthehellthatis) will be of some benefit to you in deciding if Roy is the best candidate for mayor, then by all means, avail yourself of it. I don’t have a party line. I will not decide based on party affilliation but being a democrat is a plus in my personal estimation. I hope that everyone finds out what they think is important and comes to a rational decision. I also hope that folks don’t start barking about all sorts of extraneous crap just to test the candidate’s pain threshold (like that crap about the Brewer kids) and make him decide that, while he is willing to sacrifice his time and his income to serve, he is not willing to sacrifice his family, his dignity, and his privacy. If I were one of these candidates that has been chewed up in the blogs I fear that I would just say “screw it”. And that would be perfectly justified.
I called him and he said he was running. And I might also be projecting a little.
But really, Chuck Wagner is a pharm. rep. Do we need to know how many of those pens and paper weights he gave away to Drs. before we can size up his potential for sheriff?
if i read the daily rag correctly, chuck has like 7 years in the sheriff’s department and 8 years with the state police. don’t hold me to that, but that is my recollection.
His win/loss ratio would only be of interest to me if it also listed what kinda of cases, against who and in what venue. What I am after is what are his plans for Alex, what kind of business man he is, does he play the favor game to such an extent that he’s owned by someone, in short, what sets him apart from the rest of the field. Since the rest of the field sucks when it come to ethics, morality, ability, honesty and capability, it won’t take much to impress me. However I have tried to not vote blindly since Ford was elected.
I really don’t know about that stuff but I must confess that I have found you to be consistently reasonable and informative in the past. Let us know what you discover.
The Sherrif is an administrator. He is the chief tax collector and law enforcement officer for the Parish. In the past, there has been an unwriten rule that the Sherrif had to be someone that came up through the ranks and was first and foremost a law enforcement officer. But, being Sherrif is so much more than patrolling Tioga in a police cruiser. Does the Sherrif need to have a good working knowledge of law enforcement? Certainly. But he also needs to have been exposed to other things as well. The Sherrif has the largest budget and most influence of anyone in the Parish, so he needs to be well rounded. I suspect that with Slocum it will be more of the same. Maybe thats OK. If its not OK then Wagner is certainly a good alternative.
yeah, i don’t know slocum or wagner. the sheriff is mostly an administrator. traditionally in louisiana, either the DA or the sheriff is the most powerful public official. it varies depending on the personalities of the DA or sheriff.
hilton has done a good job? we have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. this guy foisted an in perpetuity sales tax on rapides parish. this goes against the very foundation of our country – taxation without representation because people that arent even born yet will have to pay this tax without ever having the opportunity to approve or deny it. hilton is a scam artist.
That tax is better than a gold mine for the sheriff whoever it is. With that kind of money RPSO sould be the best trained and equipped law enforcement agency in the state. You be the judge.
I forgot to add this. In the past 3 weeks I have been contacted by many folks mentioning Wagner. It seems that the Law Enforcement community is strongly behind him. These folks are State Troopers down to the local level. There are also several business owners and operators that speak highly of him. Perhaps Slocum has aggrevated some of the big wheels.
Ahhhhh the tax increase that was to “help keep the schools safe” because of the presence of a School Resource Officer. From observation as well as comments from others—-we need some NEW SRO’s. The ones in place now are collecting a pay check for working on their church sermons, napping, harassing teachers, etc.
the secretary of states website is down and we’ve been combing through police jury minutes trying to find the exact wording of that tax as well as which police jurors voted to put it on the ballot. does anyone remember when that election was? we’ve looked in 2003 and 2002 minutes so far.
Anonymous-you were right when you said the Sheriff is an administrator and with Solcum it will be more of the same. Former chief deputy Bill Robinson is going to announce in the next few weeks his intention to run for sheriff. He is an administrator having served as chief deputy for 12 years and prior to that he was the Major in charge of the line divison,so he has law enforcement experiance plus administrator experiance. He retired after having to butt heads with Solcum and the Sheriff over how the money from the tax was being spent.(among other reasons).I know him and I know him to be a honest and fair man.Once he makes his announcement I know he’ll sit down and talk with anyone who wants to know how he stands on matters..
He’ll have a web site up soon and you can ask him. I can’t speak for him but I think that tax money is needed for the personell payroll and equipment, also for the school SRO’s.and yes they are needed, just ask a teacher or principal..How ever,I think that money can be used better than it’s being used now.
Roy is a definite and Brewer is getting out. Shame. Roy might have supported her and assured her election. Unfortunately, she forgot who her friends were and relied on a paid consultant and Albin Provosty to tell her what to do. She could never get elected only talking to her garden district friends. Not enough of them…Oh well, Nothing wrong with being a housewife. But what coulda been should always be in the back of her mind.
with roy at least you would have a smart guy who does his homework and would read the city agreements he signs. even clecoids could be for that. he also would get a pass from clown talk. we need informed leadership at city hall. this is best name i have heard so far.
with roy at least you would have a smart guy who does his homework and would read the city agreements he signs. even clecoids could be for that. he also would get a pass from clown talk. we need informed leadership at city hall. this is best name i have heard so far.
Historically, second bananas don’t fare well when they try to get the bosses job. Look at Dr. Cooksey heir apparent. Delores, however, seemed particulary unsuited for leadership. I am surprised that Debra Randolph didn’t recognize the problems. I think that Delores must have been an effort by friends and beneficiaries of Nedley to maintain the status quo. Roy is everything new and that is good.
Funny thing. If Brewer were HONEST and had integrity she could have had the Roy people supporting her and she knows it. That will haunt her for a very long time. Now she has to worry about the investigations that will follow the Randolph administration after she is gone. All of her supporters have to be very devestated by how weak she has been. Maybe she will show some character and get out sooner rather than later
I don’t know if she could have enjoyed Roy support. You have to remember that, as a result of the Cleco suit, Jacques has seen aspects of Alexandria City Govt. that we only speculate about. I think that’s what motivated him to search for an honest person to lead the city. And it looks like he found one. The crooks finally have something to fear.
Kelvin and Bridget better be sending out resume’s – and hiring criminal defense lawyers. That bad smell for the last 4 years was NOT Kraft Paper. It will be so great for somebody to finally shine a light on this crap.
If Brewer gets out of the race which is what im hearing all over town, then what happens to the money that was donated to her campaign? Can she give it to another candidate or does she have to return it?
Because she finally realizes she is not cut out for it. I suspect her friends have told her what they have been saying to one another. She can’t win and will only embarrass her self more than she already has.
Because she finally realizes she is not cut out for it. I suspect her friends have told her what they have been saying to one another. She can’t win and will only embarrass her self more than she already has.
Due to circumstances beyond her control, she has never been in the race. It just took her a while to realize it. She does not deserve the treatment she is getting here. Apart from her own obvious limitations, she is stuck with being perceived as part of the problems now and everybody wants change.
Delores Brewer is the best thing for this city. Who else has the experience? All the rest are in this to convert Alexandria into a “chocolate city”!! Sorry, Roys’ experience is in lawsuits. If Delores does not win, you better put in an alarm system and put a NO LOITERING sign in your yard! Then again, you will see alot of people moving to Pineville. You have to ask yourself…….Do you care about Alexandria?
In the sheriff’s race, I would like someone to answer a question, How is is possible for Mike Slocum to run for sheriff and not have to resign, and Charles Smith running for mayor had to resign.
Ooooooo! The Negros are coming. Delores would have done well with her race-baiting approach. And her experience: she was chief of staff for about 45 minutes and still managed to keep her foot in her mouth and not just lie, but get repeatedly caught at it. Oh yes, we need her really badly. There isn’t enough racial strife in this place.
how bout that poll in the paper with no source? wow.weak reporting and sad. funny thing is it was one passed around city hall about 45 days ago so someone who paid for it and was showing it around all over. the bad thing there is that it is ancient news in a race like this maybe showing where things started or where at that time. a new poll was done this weekend that shows progress for sams and johnson as they tied for the lead.
Anybody have any idea why the Sheriff race is off to such an early start? Fund raisers are already being held and how does Slocum get away with running for the Sheriff position and staying in office(in a supervisor position too)? Seems he can intimidate people to vote for him by still being their boss. Anybody he hires can be another vote for him..That’s not fair to the other canidates. He has dept personnel and vehicles working on his fund raisers as it is.
We Saw That, if Roy does get in the race I might revise that prediction. Might mind you. I’m wondering when Dr. Slatkin is going to come out of the gate. Thats the race that has me worried. Someone called me this evening and said Silver is for sure going to run. If this is true it seems that Lambert has some folks scared.
sentient do you really think roy has that much support? we just cant see alexandrians voting in an outsider much less someone from avoyelles edwin edwards land parish. but we could be and most likely are wrong after all we predicted that neither nagin or landrieu would make the orleans mayoral runoff LOL. we thought peggy wilson was the best choice.
I think Roy will garner a lot of support from the “anyone but” crowd. At this point that seems to be most of Alexandria west of Lee st. Roy hasn’t had any dirt come out so far and that’s a plus. The Demo big dogs seem to be scrambling to distance themselves from the present candidates and Brewer is sinking fast with the breakfast club crowd. Johnson really is walking the town in a door to door effort that you have to admire. I just don’t think he’s got the crossover vote needed. Sams yard signs keep popping up all over yet I haven’t met anyone that is speaking highly of him. Maybe I need to get out more. Thats why I think Roy might be a spoiler. It all depends on him actually qualifying. If he decides that the job isn’t worth the hassle, it’ll be Sams Vs. Johnson with Johnson winning. IMHO of course.
Does anybody actually think that Roy running is for our own good? C’mon…..this is great advertisement for his ems-chasing business! Also, please tell my why Delores Brewer is considered a liar (with facts please). She is a decent, professional person that really cares for the city. I think it a shame that Roy has to F(*& up the race with a “dilution vote”. Hey, then again…..business must be bad! Somebody, please slip, fall, get in a wreck, OR have an OPERATION!!!!! I NEED WORK!!!!!!
And just exactly what profession is Delores a member of? Looks like the Brewer camp is dogging Roy like their efforts still mattered and she was still a viable contender. What lies? Everybody knows what lies, have you been on Mars? Rave on Scarlet. If you can’t get your money back you might as well get your money’s worth.
Who is disenchanted? You will be very soon if you get your way. What makes you think that Delores Brewer is getting out of the race. Do you have proof….. The problem with this town is that there are way too many liberals and people who would rather bitch and complain about the city rather than get someone in who CAN do the job WITH the experience AND is respected. BTW, did you see the top blog ……how about those numbers?????? BREWER FOR MAYOR!!!!!!!!!
Did you watch the clip from the City Council meeting on KALB. Delores CLEARLY lied. Although, the next day, it was said that she did it to cover for Kelvin, so who knows.
Sure, Sams is honest, but can’t that also be a fault. My mommy told me that if I don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Sams must not have a mother.
The poll was done to determine name recognition, not who you would vote for. It means that 21% of those polled know who she is not that 21% of those polled would vote for her. That poll is old. I suspect that her name recognition is even higher now…but not in a good way.
Perhaps Ms. Brewer can regain the lost ground. Is she familer with al the players? Yes she is. Does she know all the inside information about who did what to whom> I have to believe that she does. Will she come out and clear the air? I hope so. Can she be an effective Mayor? Again I think so IF she is completly open and actually address’s the real issues facing Alexandria. Otherwise it’s Sams Vs. Johnson in the runoff.
Anyone out there planning on voting for Johnson? What is his background besides working for KALB? Did he go to collee or does he have any training in running a business? Who would he hire as chief of staff?? I hope someone more qualified than he is.
My understanding is that Paul Smith spent a bunch of money to find out that he had zero chance. He is still talking to folks but most predict that he won’t blow his nest egg on a doomed race. Polls can be a very sobering thing. I understand that his support is least among those who know him best.
I can educate you a bit about Jacques Roy, having known him for about twenty + years. Here are the reasons WHY he would make a damn good mayor for our fair city: 1. He is sharp as a tack. One of the problems with Louisiana’s image is that we are portrayed as the poor pitiful bottom-of-the-barrel state. Consider what an enlightened mind might do for image. Consider what an enlightened mind might do to actually change the status quo. 2. He is brilliant in the courtroom. Ask those who are his clients. They will tell you. He wins and he wins because his representation is stellar. Now, multiply that by an entire city that wants to move forward for a change. It is indeed exciting! Imagine for a moment that he would be fighting for YOU and YOUR interests. Think about it. 3. He genuinely cares. Consider the types of cases he has taken on. Who in his or her right mind would take on the utility department? ONLY someone who wants to see CHANGE. Only someone who truly cares about individuals and the problems that they face in everyday life. 4. He is young. Though youth can be a double edged sword, in the politics of Alexandria, it is a big plus. The old days of cronies and special deals could give way to something perhaps fresh and honest. It is a prospect that those of us who have lived here for a lifetime know too little about! I say we try it! 5. He is in touch. Consider the candidates who are running. Think about the jobs they hold. Critically think about exactly what they do, or have done. I agree that it is a great idea to speak with those who truly KNOW the people. Those who know Jacques are not afraid to tell you to talk to his constituents. I hope this helps!
we saw that commented: we just cant see alexandrians voting in an outsider much less someone from avoyelles edwin edwards land parish.
How can jacques be considered an outsider when he was raised in Alexandria? I wasn’t born here, I was born in Baton Rouge…moved here in the 2nd grade. Should I also be considered an outsider after living here for almost 30 years?
Roy is a sound candidate for the mayor’s race with fresh ideas and the backbone to stand up to the good ole boy ways that this town has been run under for years.
So I googled Roy and all I found was the NYtimes article on prison labor, cenlamar, and a comment he made in the clown talk about the cleco thing which I already knew but otherwise nothing.

talk to his current and former clients and also people that work and have worked for him associates, paralegals, private investigators etc and check with the state bar and find out if there have been any complaints filed against him.
ps also find out what his win/loss/settle ratio is. you probably need a lexis-nexis and/or a westlaw subscription.

Can you supply a link to the clip?
heres a link to that vid clip:
Sparks Fly Over Cleco Audit
The poll was done to determine name recognition, not who you would vote for. It means that 21% of those polled know who she is not that 21% of those polled would vote for her. That poll is old. I suspect that her name recognition is even higher now…but not in a good way.
If it’s just name recognition how do you explain only 4% having heard of Joe Fuller and an “undecided” category. I think you might be full-0-doo-doo
If Roy runs will it change the landscape of this election?
Anyone out there planning on voting for Johnson? What is his background besides working for KALB? Did he go to collee or does he have any training in running a business? Who would he hire as chief of staff?? I hope someone more qualified than he is.
“If Roy runs will it change the landscape of this election?”
Yep.
What happened to Paul Smith?
My understanding is that Paul Smith spent a bunch of money to find out that he had zero chance. He is still talking to folks but most predict that he won’t blow his nest egg on a doomed race. Polls can be a very sobering thing. I understand that his support is least among those who know him best.
Lynton Hester for mayor. lynton56@yahoo.com
I can educate you a bit about Jacques Roy, having known him for about twenty + years. Here are the reasons WHY he would make a damn good mayor for our fair city:
This town needs a new start…a new face…
