Warning: Lamar May Occasionally Rant
Allow me to clarify my previous post: It seems to me that some of the anonymous posters are attempting to share important information (See Cenla Antics for good evidence of what I’m talking about). However, they are communicating this information in evasive language. My main point is that when you’re trying to tell the public something anonymously, you should take better advantage of the luxuries anonymity can provide: Name some names and give us some specificity to back up your vague claims. Otherwise, you just sound like gossip. Of course, it is important to exercise responsibility, but if you KNOW something, tell it like it is. Just write in plain English. Some of you have something to say, but you seem too afraid to really say it. Well, you’re anonymous. Just say it.
By the way, toyota, I’m not talking about your comments; I’ve enjoyed your contributions.
And as far as Mr. Gunn is concerned: From what I’ve read here in the “blogosphere,” most of us appreciate Mr. Gunn’s work and believe that he is one of the few exceptions to the reigning paradigm of the local media. I think there is a difference between the perogative of the entire newspaper and the agenda of a single journalist within that newspaper. Those of us who are upset at the Town Talk and KALB’s coverage of local news are not upset at the individuals who work for these companies. We recognize that both the Town Talk and KALB are actually controlled by large, corporate interests, Gannett and Media General (I believe), and these corporate interests set the policies and procedures of their “investments.’ And there’s another thing that limits a local reporter’s ability to do their job: People here don’t talk. They protect themselves.
Updated: I had just written a critique of KALB’s lack of attention to the BIG story of the week when…all of a sudden… they cut in during commercial break and claim that they will be reporting it. Maybe the heat is on.

Nope. They didn’t run it. But if I recall correctly, they broke away from Law and Order around 9:30 to say that they would be. I wonder what happened.
yeah we were watching law and order too when they broke in with that. looks fishy on kalb’s part like someone called and ordered the story killed. see things like this which is entirely kalb’s fault dont do anything to give us much faith in their reporting etc.

I saw the story yesterday evening “Tuesday 5/30/06” on KALB News.
What happened tonight? I didn’t see the story yesterday, but even so, the specifics of the story that Gunn reported in today’s paper are crucial details that should have been on today’s newscast. I watched the six o’clock and the ten o’clock, and the story was missing from both.
So . . . in a nutshell, we got owned. I wonder if they’ll call the Town Talk and reqeust their names be taken off the police blotter when the time comes; or will the guys up there give em’ the finger? I wish I had those perks.
P.S. So, what’s gonna happen to Delores?

In other news, I received an e-mail from Diana Iles of KALB, and she said that my eyes did not deceive me last night. KALB did say they’d be running the story… and yet the story was not reported.
I think Ms Brewer just negated any argument she might have had that she is the new government. Crap like this is what we desparately need a change FROM. Her chalenge was always to distance herself from the current ugliness. I think she has failed miserably in that regard. Too bad. I had high hopes for her.
Still missing from this dialogue is the obvious nexus between the players and Lawson. How can so much KaKa come out of one office building and Lamar smell nothing??

I requires some small degree of inductive reasoning but all of the parties in question: Bridgit Brown, Kelvin Sanders, Mrs. Sanders LLC, the consultants for the bogus $100,000 water park study, various other LLCs including one for consultants composed of Brown, Kelvin Sanders, and Myron Lawson’s wife, are all located at the Lawson Insurance Bldg. I did not mean to tease or withhold. This as been the subject matter of countless entries on this and other sites. I understand that Ms. Davis is Jeff Hall’s sister. Jeff Hall is a well-known confederate of Myron and his next door neighbor. It is irrational not to suspect some collusion here.

Please know we made an ERROR a simple ERROR! The tease was written for the webcast and not the evening news and was run in ERROR. I have Tivo and if I can figure out how to post a screen grab I will put it up. What is the point? We made an ERROR. We were beaten on the story and have been attempting to work our sources and have added more information to the story as we can. THERE IS NO ATTEMPT AT SQUASHING THIS STORY.

Ms. Godard seems to think that the problem is not KALB’s substandard-to-nonexistant news department but the fact that we noticed. The question that Godard & Co. should ask is:
“How informed and current would a person be if they depended on TV5 for local news?”
Everyone sees the TV5 news SUV and truck all over town but all it ever covers are alligator sightings, county fairs, and the occassional choriographed political event. That’s important stuff and a legitimate service but it ain’t news. Ms. Godard obviously has no intention of improving the department but she should at least have the grace to acknowledge the situation instead of pretending that what we have here is a 25 year fluke or abberation. If TV5 is not going to serve us it should not insult us with bullshit excuses. Once again the spectre of influence and conflict appear. Would it not be contrary to KALB’s interest to be embarrassed by city council misconduct in view of Rosevelt Johnson’s high profile employment there? I agree that Lamar’s nose must be on the fritz. Since the days of Cactus Jack KALB has been a “feel good” station. KALB is known as a home for Gays so the “feel goodness, liberal atmosphere, permeates the staff. Tree hugging liberals do not want to be confronted with the reality of life.
Adopt-a-Babbs with her half glasses to aid an air of intelligence to her “political prognastications” during election returns is such an attractive sight and such a joke of a serious political reporter is but one example of what is served up to viewers. The numerous on air personalities who’s speech can’t be understood is another excellent example of the bullshit called tv offered to local viewers. If the citizen2 of Cenla depended upon KALB to stay current on local/national/international news we still would not know that man has landed on the moon.
However this must be what Cenla wants for TV news. KLAX had real news and apparently no one watched and supported the sponsors.

Why must we continue to act like “we don’t know any better and certainly accept the company line” when we know that it is absurd and constitutes an insult and affront to our collective intelligence. Would the above writer be more effective if he acted like he thought KALB made a reasonable effort at news? Ms. Godard introduced herself willingly into this dialogue. I’m guessing that is the etiology of “Toyota”: “you asked for it, you got it, Toyota”.
