At work today, I overheard, “Hey I saw you were in the paper today”. The accused replied, “Yea, I dunno who decided to put that in the paper.” I asked my associate later “what’s the deal?”. He tells me that he agrees that ethics laws have not been broken according to the book because there is enough division between the positions the family members held. I, of course, call bullshit and he replies, “Although you have to admit, there is some hanky panky goin’ on. There’s no denying that.”

how in the hell can they determine it’s separated enough when kelvin sanders can’t even find the charter. the mayor appoints 4 out of 5 of the board members. sounds pretty close to me.
Yeah, the system is geared TOWARD this type of arrangement.
But, you have to remember, the public, according to my observations, actually believe there is enough seperation to validate their actions. This IS a problem.

A friend of mine close to Myron says that he is working on bringing a famous restaurant franchise to town. Could this be the reason the company “EAT” was set up?
WHAT DO ALL THESE LITTLE COMPANIES DO?
I thought he sold insurance and served the community as a councilman.
WHAT IS THE NEED FOR THESE COMPANIES?
Why isn’t the TT or KALB reporting these stories? Why is the good ol’ boy network allowed to thrive? Black or white, it doesn’t matter.
For many of us, what is most disappointing about Myron is that we had initially thought he was different than the others. He was independently wealthy, professional, young, and driven. We thought he’d be different than everyone else, and I think that is one of the main reasons he was able to convince black and white voters.
But once he got into a position of power and importance, he began seeing business opportunities due to his connections, opportunities that were unknown to the commmunity at large. Instead of really serving the community, Myron, in the same spirit of the cronies before him and the cronies around him, exploited this knowledge for personal gain.
And this is no different than what Mrs. Brewer attempted to do.
IT’S THE SAME SHIT.
Ms. Godard, if you want to know why people are so irate at your news station (and why a select number of these people have decided to throw personal insults your way), it’s because WE ALL SEE THIS SHIT HAPPENING AND YOU’RE NOT REPORTING IT.
WHAT DO YOU NEED? MORE SOURCES? WHY DON’T YOU GO DOWN THE HALL AND ASK ROOSEVELT?
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE PUT OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN ITS PLACE? (other than the blogs)

Astounding! This same blatant politcal graft and self-serving promotion and protectionism has been going on here forever when folks like Walker were selling their milk to the schools they were governing and Bowden was building a slum empire on the backs and pocket books of city workers. Now, all of a sudden, we have decided to blame this miserable and embarrasing situation on Michele Godard. If Ms. Godard lives in Alexandria, she has exactly one vote so what’s our excuse? May I suggest that you shut the fuck up. When you are willing to leave your comfort zone and help some of these folks make some changes to our dishonest system of local government, then you may talk and scream and accuse. The Myrons and Kelvins and Bridgits and Smiths and Hobbs and Marshalls are our fault, not Michele Godards. Your points about KALB being totally worthless to the community are valid but thanks to people like Mike Burns and Billy Gunn, we know exactly what’s going on. If people don’t it is because they just don’t care.
We need change, complete change for two reasons. We need to show the scoundrels that we are not going to tolerate this shit any longer. And we need to let new, uncorrupted sincere properly motivated independent people take the reins with a clear understanding of what we expect and demand. And we need to be fair. An establishment white guy with a multimillion dollar white-elephant store building downtown is no better than a black guy who rakes off a consulting fee. Throw the bums out. Then we build the Alexandria we want and we make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Tired, you get an amen from me. We as a community have the government that we deserve due to our inaction at the polls and meetings of the various governing bodies. Tell your neighbor to wake up and tell his neighbor. People become apathetic when they think they don’t matter or get lazy. Either way the results are the same. Many hands make light work.
No Spanky. This is not a “tell your neighbor” deal. We have good people like Mark Lampert and Dr. Slatkin and Dr. Sams (objectionable though he may be) who are puting themselves out there and willing to sacrifice to make this thing work. Get behind them. Help them. Give them and ourselves a chance. Make the system work. This is a “roll-up-your-sleeves” deal and I promise you that is exactly what I’m doing. I promise you that I am out there everyday doing what I can to move the community to cure this problem. I’m not in a position to let my employer know my activism but I’m in the game and you need to be also. The new guys may not be great but they are NEW and that’s got to be our direction for now. Won’t you please he’p me?
dont forget the district attorney’s office too. we are in desperate need of a good da here in rapides. what does our present district attorney do? all they do is prosecute traffic tickets and get their asses handed to them over and over again by mike small. (this isnt a slam on mike small we think he is a brilliant attorney.)
a decent honest district attorney would be convening grand juries investigating all this corruption. the present district attorneys office is either too dumb, too lazy and/or in the mix with the criminals (court house & city hall crowds) and has shown they cant and wont do the job they were elected to do.
Tired, you misunderstood the need to get everyone involved. Voter turnout has been about 25% for the last few years. There are a lot of folks that do not vote, period. Of the ones that vote consistently, it is relatively easy to predict the outcome. Yes, you have to get your neighbor involved and his neighbor because there are a lot of people that are not taking care of their civic duty to vote. I want to see a better field for candidates than we have and will not be satisfied until I see that happen. How come no one is talking about opposition in Hobbs district?
There ought to be someone who could run in that district. If I am not mistaken it includes parts or all of Martin Park, Airview Terrace, Deerfield, maybe even Courtland Place. There has to be someone with some honesty and an IQ over 70 that could beat Hobbs.
