Billy Gunn writes:

Alexandria Councilman Everett Hobbs says Mayor Ned Randolph should consider resigning the office he has held since 1986.

“If the mayor can’t perform his duties, he needs to step down,” Hobbs said, alluding to an illness he said Randolph might have that prevents him from fulfilling his mayoral duties.

Randolph, who announced earlier this month that he would not seek a sixth term, denied today that he suffers from or has been diagnosed with a debilitating illness.
“No, absolutely not,” said Randolph, who will relinquish his office in December after the election this fall. He said he would not resign.

Hobbs’ comments today, made in a telephone interview with The Town Talk, followed allegations he made at the end of Tuesday’s council meeting, where he said three aides close to Randolph were making the decisions, not the mayor.

  1. Both Hobbs and the second floor of City Hall have been very quiet since Wednesday. I thought there would be more catcalling and fireworks after the public exchange. Perhaps they decided to be civil?

  2. Ned has had the shakes for 3 years and is spending the rest of his time covering his tracks and grooming Delores to step in and keep them covered. Why is Kelvin in the CA’s spot? Is it that he is so bright? I think not. A rat told me that someone was waving around some photos and what do you know, the council’s man is on the second floor. It would be a scandal except that the council loves the leverage. It is amazing how you truly can fool most of the people most of the time. The Cleco deal goes beyond the inception of LEPA and laid the groundwork for the last 20 years. How is coal railed from Wyoming cheaper and more efficient than natural gas produced in Louisiana and if the contention is that it is, then why does Cleco have natural gas power plants? Makes you want to say, huh? If you want to know where the money trail is, look at the utility department. What is in common with the gang of three that were let go? What a charade.
