    Today, The Town Talk reported that Union Tank Car — our area’s only recent foray into the realm of blue collar manufacturing jobs– has fired 50 of their approximately 600 workers.  The official term used, of course, is lay-off, but these job cuts were applied with a caveat that employees would not be eligible for rehire, pending future production increases.  I suppose with moving into the blue collar labor market, we get to learn the realities of that market…that is, when the companies don’t need labor, they will ditch our workers quickly.   • Shreveport Man Claims He Was Beaten For Being An Obama Supporter

    A few days ago, this story made the e-mail rounds a few days ago, and today it was picked up by The Shreveport Times. Last weekend, Kaylon Johnson was severely beaten and robbed at a Shreveport area Citgo station, an attack that, he claims, was due to his support for Barack Obama. At the time, Johnson was wearing an Obama t-shirt, and his attackers allegedly yelled profanities about President-elect Obama while they assaulted him. (Kaylon’s on the right).
