    OK, I’m not going to write a big narrative on what I think first; instead I am inviting a discussion on this: This economic downturn, with all of the bankruptcies and business makeovers it is bringing could be really good for a place like Cenla from an economic development standpoint. Why?

A couple of years ago, I wrote a lot about the need for active revitalization in Alexandria, and frequently, people would respond with legitimate questions and criticisms: “We’ve been spending millions of dollars in Downtown already,” they would say, “and what do we have to show for it?” “The ‘free market’ is headed down 28 West; that is where we should spend money.” “It’s a lost cause.
