This should be considered required reading for anyone interested in understanding and improving the State of Louisiana. It’s obvious that we face a multitude of problems– a struggling school system, entrenched poverty, an overextended infrastructure (highways and roads), wetlands protection, and crime– and this report offers some context about the scale and proportions of our problems.

  1. Wow. You always hear reports about how Louisiana is ranked 49th in something and 50th in something else, but until you see it all in one report, it doesn’t really add up. Thanks for posting this report card. It makes you think about the quality of our political leadership. Even on the local level, people like to talk more about two-way streets and water parks than education and crime. We all need to wake up and focus on the big issues.

  2. The common denominator in all this low ranking is that the democrats have been in control of the legislature for all or nearly all of the past 50 some odd years. Hello???
