Southern University Student Dies After Attempting To Rescue Family Out Of Burning Home

The Town Talk is reporting that David Eggins, 21, died yesterday after running into a burning home on Third Street and attempting to rescue Annie Guillot, 79, and Edna Carr, 106. It is a sad story that deserves pause and respect.  Eggins was a student at Southern University, home for the weekend to join in the Mardi Gras festivities with his family.

Last night, Mayor Jacques Roy spoke about Mr. Eggins, Ms. Guillot, and Ms. Carr at the Krewe of Louisiana soiree, calling Eggins a hero who sacrificed his life in attempt to save others. Roy led others in a moment of silence in honor of the three lives lost.
