I know this isn’t the type of story usually posted on this blog, but I found it interesting enough to share. According to the NY Times, newly-discovered documents reveal that Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank, attempted to secure visas for his family to escape from Germany to the United States in 1941. His contact in the US was a co-owner of Macy’s Department Store and a close friend of Eleanor Roosevelt, and despite his best attempts, the effort was thwarted by red-tape and bureaucracy.
