Vote for Jindal! Win a Free Apple Computer!

Recently, the Louisiana Republican Party has been touting their clever pro-Jindal, anti-Blanco website, http://www.dontblamemeivotedforjindal.com. In today’s Town Talk, James Quinn, a director for the Louisiana GOP, wrote an opinion piece about the website, claiming that it chronicles Blanco’s “weakly blunders” and ineptitude.

I have no problem with a political party setting up a website, complete with embarrassing photos of one’s opponent (which is about as substantive as this website is). That’s what democracy is all about!

But here’s the kicker: In order to lure people to the embarrassing photos…err.. information, the Louisiana GOP is promoting a TV ad contest in which contestants have the chance to win a FREE APPLE COMPUTER! Woo hoo!

Ball’s in your court, Kathleen. I suggest the Dems offer something even better… like a FREE CAR!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Hang on to your pocketbooks, the demoncrats are about to rob us blind.

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of the stock market
as “just another example of Bush policies helping the rich get
    richer”.

“First Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded
with new record low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy
employers are getting even wealthier at the expense of the underpaid
    working class”.

She went on to say “Despite the billions of dollars being spent in
Iraq our economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at
all time highs. What this really means is that business is
exploiting the war effort and working Americans just to put money in
    their own pockets”.

When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded “Only
the rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans,
welfare recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in
    these obscene record highs”.

“There is no question these windfall profits and income created by
the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those
dollars redistributed to the poor and working class”.

“Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our
working class who, buy their hard work, are responsible for
generating these corporate profits that create stock market profits
for the rich. We in congress will need to address this issue to
either tax these profits or to control the stock market to prevent
this unearned income to flow to the rich”.

When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have
investments in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401K’s, and the stock
market she replied “That may be true, but probably only 5% account
for 90% of all these investment dollars. That’s just more “trickle
down” economics claiming that if a corporation is successful that
everyone from the CEO to the floor sweeper benefit from higher wages
and job security which is ridiculous”. How much of this “trickle
down” ever get to the unemployed and minorities in our county? None,
and that’s the tragedy of these stock market highs.”

“We democrats are going to address this issue after the election
when we take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to
80% tax rates on the rich and we will be able to take at least 30%
of all current lower Federal Income Tax taxpayers off the roles and
increase government income substantially. We need to work toward
the goal of equalizing income in our country and at the same time
limiting the amount the rich can invest.”

When asked how new these new tax dollars would be spent, she
replied “We need to raise the standard of living of our poor,
unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12
million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along
with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall
profits taxes could go a long ways to guarantee these people the
standard of living they would like to have as Americans”

A Bush spokesman responded to this interview by saying “Mrs. Pelosi
has set a new standard for the spin business.

    Liberalsarescum,

I think you’ve actually set the new standard for the spin business: You’ve posted a completely fabricated and totally egregious “news” release that you probably received as an e-mail. You didn’t fact-check this post. You didn’t even question it. Well, I found it somewhere else on the Internet.

Here’s one of the responses it generated from a blogger named Chris:

“This is a really shameful hoax. It’s a pity so many people have been mailing it around, because it doesn’t even pass a basic sniff test.

Think about it: two weeks after the elections, every major public statement by Nancy Pelosi is in the papers and on the TV. So why is this write-up only found in conservatives e-mails to one another and blogs like this one? Especially when she’s quoted as saying basically crazy shit, like 100% tax rates on windfall taxes.

That would be flashing-siren material for Drudge, a couple rants for Hannity and O’Reilly, etc.

As for the write itself, anyone who pushed this across the AP wire would be fired. There are so many errors, it’s clearly a hoax. Among the obvious points:

    * There is no indication of the city the story was filed from, nor the wire service it was filed with.

    * The write has an immense number of grammatical errors and is totally inconsistent with AP style. Errors include a huge number of missing commas, and periods outside of quotes when they should be inside. “By” is written as “buy” in the sixth paragraph. Quotes within quotes, like “trickle down” in the seventh paragraph, should have single quotes, and probably wouldn’t have any quotes at all since they come from an ostensibly spoken, not written, source.

AP style would also capitalize “Congress” and “Democrats”, and would probably say “spokesperson” instead of “spokesman” in the last paragraph.

    * The story puts right-wing verbiage into Pelosi’s supposed quotes. Liberals would never say “welfare recipients” or “minorities”, as their preferred terms are “the less fortunate” and “people of color”. The only Dems who talk about “illegal immigrants” are those who oppose them; others use newspeak like “undocumented workers.”

    * A real wire write would put the White House reaction much higher than the last paragraph. Newspaper stories are written in descending order of importance, so they can be cut off any any point for space. The reaction is a critical point for balance, and would probably occur after the first three or four paragraphs.

See, Republicans, this is why we Libertarians and swing voters abandoned you. You can’t handle reality, so you feel compelled to make shit up. And if you can’t handle real life, you don’t get to lead. It’s just that simple.”
