  1. I just read on the TT that the LC chapter of Amnesty International will be having a candlelight vigil in response to the conflict in Darfur. That’s awesome. More attention needs to be given to this subject. But, am I the only one surprised to learn that there’s an Amnesty chapter at LC???

    The stock market is at a new all-time high and America’s 401K’s are back.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Unemployment is at 25- year lows.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Oil prices are plummeting.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Taxes are a t 20- year lows.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Federal tax revenues are at all-time highs.
    A new direction from there means what?

    The Federal deficit is down almost 50%, just as predicted over last year.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Home valuations are up 200% over the past 3.5 years.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Inflation is in check, hovering at 20- year lows.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Osama bin Laden is living under a rock in a dark cave, having not surfaced in years, if he’s alive at all, while 95% of Al Queda’s top dogs are either dead or in custody, cooperating with US Intel.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Several major terrorist attacks already thwarted by US and British Intel, including the recent planned attack involving 10 Jumbo Jets being exploded in mid-air over major US cities in order to celebrate the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks.
    A new direction from there means what?

    Just as President Bush foretold us of on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made “ground zero” for the war on terrorism — and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here.

    Moreover, bear in mind that all of the above occurred in the face of the 1999 tech crash, the epidemic of corporate scandals throughout the 90’s, and the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks on NYC, years in the planning , which collectively sucked 24 trillions of dollars and 7.8 million jobs out of the US economy even before G. W. Bush had time to unpack his suitcases in the White House. It’s easy to attempt to discredit, disgrace and defame our C ommander-in-Ch ief, George W. Bush; what’s not so easy to do is to refute irrefutable facts, no matter how they might try.

    The stock market may be up, but unemployment is NOT at a 25-year low.

    Here are the unemployment rates during the Clinton administration:
    1992 7.5
    1993 6.9
    1994 6.1
    1995 5.6
    1996 5.4
    1997 4.9
    1998 4.5
    1999 4.2
    2000 4.0

    Notice the steady downward trend.

    Here are the unemployment rates during the Bush administration:

    2001 4.7
    2002 5.8
    2003 6.0
    2004 5.5
    2005 5.1
    2006 (so far:) Hovering around 4.4-5.0

    Oil prices are not PLUMMETING. Who are you trying to fool?

    The Iraq War has actually created terrorism, which is directly jeopardizing American lives. Nearly 3,000 of them. And hundreds of thousands of CIVILIANS have been killed.

    What was the federal deficit six years ago?

    Oh, that’s right. We didn’t have one. In fact, we had a projected 2 TRILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS.

    If you’re going to cherry pick the facts to make your case, you should probably recognize that there is a good reason people voted for a new direction. (And really, I’ve read IDENTICAL LANGUAGE on several Republican blogs today. Sounds like you got your talking points down).

  4. The True Rhetoric vs. Reality

    Democrats will bring a New Direction for America. Did you really want to “stay the course”?

    The record in the stock market mostly reflects corporate profits and in many cases profiteering in Iraq. The majority of Americans do not own a single share of stock.

    The unemployment rate is NOT at a 25 year low. It is the lowest it has been since May 2001.

    Taxes MIGHT be at a 20 year low, but the national debt is at an ALL TIME high. This year alone, the U.S. will pay a half a trillion dollars on the interest alone. How is that good for the country? We DO need a new direction.

    Federal revenues are at an all time high because of corporate profits and because the rich are now filthy rich. The average Americans “real income” has gone down in EACH of the last 5 years.

    The social impact of the bursting of the US housing market is already being registered in a sharp increase in home foreclosures. In August foreclosures in the U.S. were 53% higher than a year ago. The number of foreclosures are at record highs under Bush.

    If inflation is in check why has tuition and health care costs nearly doubled under the Bush Administration?

    There have been no attacks on U.S. soil since 9-11, but neither was there any attacks on U.S. soil in the six years prior to that. And that attack was by an American, that by the way was a Republican.

    Osama bin Laden has not been caught in five years. With all the resources available to the government, this is unacceptable. I’m counting on the Democrats to actually catch him “dead or alive,” not just say it and forget it.

    Iraq might be “ground zero” NOW for the war on terror, but it wasn’t prior to the war. The terrorist came to Iraq to fight us. Was that fair to the citizens of Iraq? You don’t fight a war on terror by attacking a sovereign nation. You fight it by attacking the terrorist cells where ever they might be. Now this botched war is costing us $7000 a second and it shoudn’t have happened.

    The mindlessness is coming from the Republican Party. It is providing people with false information. It’s time to clean up Washington and fight the real war on terror.

    If you are not in the top 5% of income earners in the U.S. you will not have to worry about tax increases. If you are in the top 5%, you won’t have to worry either because you won’t feel the increase. The Democrats will work to help the middle class. Wait and see. Don’t listen to conservative b.s.
