  1. What do I think now? Hell, I am so confused about the mayoral election this Saturday, I may just get so drunk Friday nighht that I sleep through Saturday.

  2. What do I think now? Hell, I am so confused about the mayoral election this Saturday, I may just get so drunk Friday nighht that I sleep through Saturday.

  3. I am confused because I am old. I am confused because I have heard some negative things about each candidate. I am confused because i had too much to drink at dinner tonight.

  4. Careful. Don’t go around attacking her person …or her lack of integrity …or her lack of ethics …or her lack of knowledge about what her husband does for a living …or her lack of ways to lie without getting cought on television. She has been weighed, she has been measured, and she has been found …just plain dumb.

  5. Mr. Confused. If you really are undecided at this point, you should check out kalb.com or deloressaidit.com and watch the video blog of Delores answering questions from Michelle Godard. you’ll see her admitting to flat out lying to the City Council and bidding on a Housing Authority contract via a company that she formed. She said there was no conflict of interest in that case because the only link between the Mayor’s office and the Housing Authority is that the Mayor appoints 4 of the 5 board members of the Authority. How is this not a conflict of interest? Do yourself a favor and watch it before you go vote.

  6. For all the softies who get upset about political ads. First, you need to compare both, Delores’s ads attack Jacques’s profession which is pretty lame. I think it is a benefit having a attorney in the office. Jacques’s ads review what she has said in the town talk. He didn’t say City planners are bad for the city. I also what to know when a lie became know as a figure of speech or mis-spoke. Next time I lie I will just say Its a figure of speech. Alexandria, don’t screw this election up and vote for ROY, Roy is Right.

  7. I have to agree that Roy’s got better stuff on her than she’s got on him. I agree that people here are softies about negative campaigning. That’s because we haven’t been exposed to much of it in local elections over the past number of years of the Ned era. There was a little mudslinging, at times, but it was so goofy, no one took it seriously. Now, we are entering a new era. IMHO, we are experiencing what amounts to growing pains. People are edgy and not accustomed to going through a competitive race in which there is no absolutely certain outcome. No matter that folks don’t like it, campaigns only use negative messages because they work. Politics is rough and tumble. When a winner is chosen, folks will get over it.

  8. When I think of mudslinging, I think of attacks on a candidate’s family, religion, sexual proclivities, PROFESSION, etc. I do not consider it mudslinging when one candidate states facts about another candidate that sting a little bit. The truth is what we need, no matter how stinging the truth is. I encourage Mrs. Brewer to come forward with any stinging truths she has about Jacques Roy, which implies that she can back them up. If she can do that, then I think Alexandria benefits. I want, along with my fellow citizens, to make an informed vote on Saturday. If all she has ads attacking his profession, then shame on her. At least I will know who NOT to vote for.

  9. She claims her experience in the current administration is an advantage to her and then tells michelle goddard about all the chaos in city government. Then she says she read the City Charter after she decided to run for mayor. Do you mean that she was part of that administration for 17 years and never once read the Charter? Not even when she was appointed Chief of Staff? Then she admitted to flat out lying to the City Council on television and to bidding on a Housing Authority contract (after, of course, she consulted legal advice to see if that was legal and ethical for her to do). Come on!! If you have to ask if it’s legal …..then it’s certainly not ethical. I would actually be scared if someone like Delores Brewer were Mayor of the city that I live in. If you think there is chaos in city government now, imagine how much worse it could get with her at the helm. Go to kalb.com and watch the video blogs if you haven’t done so.

Vote for the clear choice for transparency and accountability in city government. Watch the blogs and you will see that Jacques Roy is the only qualified candidate in this race. On September 30, JACQUES THE VOTE!!!

  11. Poor Roy- he is so naive that he does not even realize when his campaign handlers in the Avoyelles Parish “Roy machine” are sending out negative campaign material! Is he delusional thinking that mail out and his TV ads about Delores are not negative? How many of you truly think that is the way to run a professional campaign- much less a city?

  12. I really don’t care who put it out. It’s something that needs to brought out into the sunshine. The fact is that it’s all the truth and voters need to know about it. Negative advertising is one thing, but shedding some light on corrupt and unethical conduct by one of the candidates for mayor is not negative, IT’S INFORMATIVE!

  13. I just have one question- why do political campaigns almost always turn negative and nasty? It really is sad, and does not have to be that way. Run on your merit– everyone has faults— all this negative stuff has ended my “Saint’s wining 23-3” high!

  14. I’ll tell you what’s negative. Brewer’s recorded phone calls asking if you’d vote for Roy knowing he’s a trial lawyer, knowing his dad is Chris Roy, knowing he defends DWI offenders. Sounds to me like she’s grasping at straws. Guess who else was a trial lawyer? NED RANDOLPH! She’s so stupid…she’s attacking the profession of the man who has been mayor since 1986. And she’s been part of his administration for a great part of that 20 years. And who cares who his dad is. If, by some miracle she could prove that Roy controlled what his dad did before he was even born, then maybe her comments would have some merit. As for defending DWI offenders, that’s what lawyers do. It’s part of the way the justice system of the USA works. Since she just so recently discovered the City Charter, maybe someone should introduce her to the Constitution of this country. Executive, Legislative, …AND JUDICIAL. Maybe she should take a 9th grade civics class

I agree that the candidates should run on their own merit. Brewer’s only problem with that is that she’s trying to create merit to run on, because she has none.

  15. If you really believe that this negative campaigning is good for the city and good for our citizens than – I feel sorry for you! I don’t like any of them doing it from James David Cain on down to Roy or Brewer!
I don’t like what she said about Roy- but I really don’t like what he said about her –

Yep- Delores was incorrect about the meeting being not scheduled. Nope, she had nothing to do w/ here brother in law getting the job with the city- BLAME Ned, Harold and Kelvin! Nope, she had nothing to do w/ her husband getting a contract with the housing authority- that is NOT OWNED or OPERATED by the city. She had EVERY right 2 years ago to put in a bid to do a contract with the housing authority. she NEVER worked for the Housing Authority because she did not get the contract-If she had- she would have QUIT the city.

Roy is blaming the wrong people– and naming the Town Talk and KALB as a source– wonder if he thinks that would stand up in a court of law – it’s an old political tactic- take a small thing blow it up, say it enough to make people think it is a huge deal–don’t fall for it!
She is an ethical person- no matter what Roy is trying to make you think! Bet Mr. Roy has told a few white lies in his life.

  16. No one likes when campaigns go negative, but it’s just part of the process. Like it or not, negative ads can inform the public on a candidate’s record.

Anonymous 1:22PM, your logic is flawed, and you know it. Delores can’t have it both ways. She can’t take credit for all of the good things accomplished during her tenure in the Randolph administration without also accepting responsibility for the bad things, PARTICULARLY when they directly relate to questions of her own PROFESSIONAL ethics.

Yes, it does matter to the public that her husband did insurance business with the housing authority. Considering that the mayor appoints four out of the five board members for the AHA, I can’t see how in the world you could claim that the mayor has no oversight over their authority. COME ON.

Yes, it does matter to the public that Mrs. Brewer put in a bid to do work for the housing authority, because, even though it’s not officially unethical, it still seems shady and cozy.

By the way, at least Mr. Roy sources his information, and in Alexandria, that means the Town Talk and KALB.

  17. See Brewer’s hypocrisy for yourself: wesawthat.blogspot.com

Find out what she really thinks about people who sue insurance companies.

  18. I care about the appearance of propriety. It smells fishy to me when you place a bid for a contract with an organization which your boss appoints 4 out of the 5 members to. She has said that she was not contemplating running for mayor at that time. I don’t understand why she can’t say that hindsight is 20/20 and now I can see that maybe it does look fishy. Then move on. I believe the reason she cannot is she has more to hide and does not want to commit herself to record like she did with the lying about meeting with the lawyers.

Say what you want about Jacques Roy and his profession, but Jacques has always represented his clients, whoever they happen to be, ethically and to the best of his ability, which is what all lawyers should strive to do.

  19. i use to think roy was a good guy that he wasnt that bad but now i just hope he gets hammered to the ground where his disgusting excuse for a being belongs. its gross. and if youve ever had an actual conversation with mrs brewer you would never be able to say a negative thing about her. she is an intelligent strong willed woman and will do so much good as our new mayor. honestly guys…have you ever even looked into her eyes and shaken her hand?
    burn roy.

  20. Hey, that sounds like you made the decision to hate Roy and support Brewer based on a single conversation with her. Doesn’t take much to sway you does it? I have a suggestion for you … Try not to base your vote on how nice someone is in person, especially when they’re running for public office and want your vote. If you’d like to weigh in on political conversations, please base your comments on the candidates record and their ability to to the job, not how nice they were to you.

    Get informed!

  21. Delores Brewer is running against her own former boss, a person who she should consider to be her greatest campaign asset. She should be ashamed of herself. Now that she wants to be mayor, all of a sudden, things are so god awful and we need her to fix em? Why didn’t she do something about the tall grass and the cars in yards all of those years she was at the city? Why didn’t she refuse to be a part of a city government run by a trial attorney since she believes they are devils in disguise? Why did she become so close to Provosty and Sadler who also happen to be lawyers since she hates the profession so much? Some loyal city employee she turned out to be.

  22. All true. And it’s all on video. She says there is chaos in city government, Housing Authority needs to be investigated, charter is not being followed. After all this, I can’t see why so many people try to argue for her. What is it. I know there are those who are seeking personal gain through the possibility that she’ll win, but there are others, i think, who just go along with what’s popular. There is no room for party lines, race, sex, etc…in this election. People should vote for the person who they think truly would do the best job at cleaning up city govt and growing this city correctly.

  23. correction: provosty and saddler are actually good lawyers. was it georgetown law where brenner got his degree from? yes yes i think it was. and all this ‘why didnt she do it when she was in office’ is completely irrelevant. no of it means she isnt currently qualified to reinnovate alexandria.
you’re wrong. and roy has lost.

  24. as ive said dont bring p&s into this they are the best lawyers in central la and could take roy down any day of the week.

  25. I assume that you, like Sadler, see no conflict in one firm representing both sides in a dispute like the Patel lease and the John Grafton matter. Unfortunately, they consider that unethical at Georgetown and Samtown.

  26. Uh oh, the Sadler’s are on the blog again. Watch out, Brenner’s tiny but tough! If he can’t beat you up, Cindy will handle it for him.

  27. My kids said that John Sams looks like “Patrick” on Spongebob Squarepants. Interesting…just wondering……if he wins, will Alexandria just be another cartoon?

  28. Provosty is a joke of a law firm and have bet the stakes for Dewhores Brewer so they can keep all of the city work and represent the other side at the same time…..Why would you have one partner (sadler-napolean bonafart- represent one side and then Ron Fiorenza (who is a partner of Saddlers if he goes to work and is not at the Country Club) representing the other side in a city issue…why..because they have learned from the master…Albin Provosty….Check out his work with the La Ethics Commission….Hell, I live in Tioga and yes, I am an attorney but can tell you that the old guard should be shot, which is the Dewhores and her island of idiots…Go Red

  29. “Let’s focus on other peoples problems and not the solutions to our own.”

How and WHY are we focusing on law firms and other peoples squash!! It should have been the ISSUES this whole time. This is the kind of thing that will keep Alexandria exactly the same.

    MAN O MAN

  30. What exactly is the reason for the term “Dewhores”? That’s a personal attack that has no intelligent bearing in a political discussion. You are an ass… I guess that’s what you get when you talk to a LAWYER in TIOGA.

  31. SO YOUD RATHER HAVE ROY BUT IN THAT LOW LIFE ALLEN WHO IS ONE OF THE WORST LAWYERS EVER AS THE CITY ATTORNEY ..ONE OF THE MOST CORRUPT MEN IN ALEXANDRIA???????? ROY IS MIRRORING HUEY P LONG POLITICS! IF HE GOES INTO OFFICE…ALEXANDRIA IS GONE.

  32. Sams will not get my vote! I am tired of the crap he leaves in the yards of his Park Place neighbors. Does he really think we residents don’t mind his walking his dog in our yards to dodo? Talk about “Negative Crap”

  33. How dickless can you be. Have you thought about telling Sams you have had it with the dog doo, and to cut it out?

  34. Agreed that the dog poo problem has a simple solution. Tell him your yard is off limits……..or tell him to bring doggy bags to scoop up the unwanted gift.

  35. You don’t think he hasn’t been told? He knows we don’t like it, yet he continues his arrogant ways. He is, after all, DR.SAMS, God’s gift to Alexandria. We are just plain common everyday folks. Why should he treat any of us with even the most common of courtesy?
