Felony theft should not be a part of ANY election, and it’s baffling to me that some of you are shrugging your shoulders and implicitly defending this practice.
Can we agree that if a particular candidate or his or her operative or son was responsible for removing many signs that if shown , then that Candidate should publically apologize??
What most of the candidates as well as most of you don’t realize is that at least 90% of the political signs in Alexandria are illegally located on city property. The City sign ordinance states “any sign located within the ROW of a public street or on any other public property are illegal and shall be imediately removed by the Planning Director or designee”. Seems like folks who are on the Council or who have worked for the City in the past would be aware of this ordinance. This is just one of many ordinances on the books that are “selectively enforced”.
I think all the signs should be removed by the candidate from the right of way. I also think that garage sale signs nailed to telephone poles should be removed and the person that installed the sign on the poile fined.
Most people have no idea where right of way ends and private property begins. If a sign is enplaced near the road it is normally on the right of way. If thew sign is nailed to the post it is endagering the safety of linesmen that must work on the poles.
You don’t want selective enforcement get the signs off the roiad and poles and get legal.
No but Cenla Pride will go along and stick an Illegal Sign bumper sticker on signs posted to telephone poles and other street signs – they’ll do it on signs in obvious right of ways as well such as medians. It’s stupid to put an illegal sign sticker on the sign – they should just remove the sign period it they have somehow been deemed the sign police!
I think there should be an ordinance regarding the picking up of signs post election. Candidates should have so many days to remove all signs. There was a Larry Paige for school board sign that stayed up near ASH for 3 years after the election was over. It may still be there.
I think its pretty obvious folks!! I mean think of the time frame. Also, think about what happens when a little alcohol and friends get together can do. Also, when you start seeing childish things like name calling, i mean c’mon.
I am a Brewer supporter and I have heard of things and know of things personally about Morgan Brewer, Dolores Brewer’s son. He is admittedly not a saint, but this does not mean that he is the one responsible for the disappearing signs.
With that said, I do think that his whereabouts on the nights in question should be looked into to see if he has a valid alibi. If Dolores were smart, she would put all the conspiracy theories to rest by showing that no one in her family was involved. If someone in her family or campaign was involved, I believe she should have the guts to out these persons and commit to running a more ethical campaign. I believe that simply ignoring the accusations when there is some validity in pointing them her way shows many supporters such as myself that maybe she has something to hide.
Ms. Brewer has not really achieved reknown for her honesty, candor, ethics, or judgment. I would not hold my breath waiting for any “break” in the case. It is my understanding that the sign bandits, whomsoever they may be, were operating out of the Brewer white SUV. But that may be only a figure of speech.
Well, I think stealing a sign and removing a sign to clean and polish with the intent to return them is really spliting hairs. Im sure that one of her supporters or family just happend to “run into” the signs or maybe mispeak runs in family .
I don’t care who thevonrandow is or isn’t. I’m more interested to know who would feel compelled to write in, expose his alleged identity, and insult his wife.

This isn’t a case of the Planning Director removing signs that violated a city ordinance. Signs were removed from private property.

The above message should read:” . . . . sons and/or GRANDSONS” of the sign removing candidate, should apologize and give back the goddam signs.

There is a law that gives candidates 30 days (I think) to remove campaign signs after an election. Again, not well enforced.
