  1. Great news! I hope the historical stained glass windows that Dean removed are included in the deal.

  2. I agree on the windows. Most people think they went to the Eola – they went to Mississippi – only to a private home – along with a few chandeliers and gas lamps to boot!

  4. I’m really happy about the possibility of the Bentley reopening, but doesn’t it seem prematurely self-aggrandizing to hold a PRESS CONFERENCE to tell us that they put the Bentley under contract?

This smells of election year politicking. Dean’s been known to pull out of a deal, particularly if he thinks he doesn’t have the upperhand anymore. Why wouldn’t they play this a little more carefully?

Look at what happpened when Lamar wrote about the hotel being under contract? They told him to delete the post. Why? Now it seems like they wanted to make the annoucement FIRST, and they didn’t want anyone to steal their thunder when they proclaimed to the everyone, Myron, Harry, and Martin Johnson in tow, that THEY DID IT!

But wait… it’s not actually a done deal. We’ll have to wait until November 15th.

And guess what else? They haven’t even met with local businesses to find out how exactly they’re going to bring its business back. From Babs Zimmerman’s article:

“Next, he says they want to meet with local, regional and state officials to “determine if all parties are prepared to take action now to bring back ‘The Waldorf on the Red River,’ the nickname given to the National Historical landmark by lumberman and local businessman, Joseph A. Bentley, at its grand opening in 1908.”

In real estate, I believe they call this a due diligence period, and considering this group hasn’t even undertaken this yet, it seems a little ridiculous that they already arrived at a sales price.

Guys, it’s great to be happy about this story, but let’s recognize that this “press conference” was nothing more than an excuse to put Myron and Harry’s faces on television, touting an achievement they haven’t even achieved, five weeks before the election.

  5. This is a deal that may come to fruition two weeks after the elections. The message here from Lawson and Silver is “just trust us – you know you can”. Are you comfortable with that? The “Fast Track” announcement was seen for what it was, a political stunt, so now they are upping the production. I B skeptical.

  6. how stupid do they think we are. this is a might deal at best. at least they admit if the state and city pays them enough, that is the only way it will happen.
