I have to say it…Sams gets the nod. I would never have voted for the guy but I am now. He proved me wrong and showed he gets it.
Only person to hit the issues clearly.

I’m a big nerd, and I taped the forum. I just watched it, and here are my impressions… as if they count for anything..

It was a very well-organized, professional forum. They should have put the mayoral candidates up there first, because for the average viewer, this election is more important than the City Council.

Harry Silver’s hilarious. His opponent Lampert was dead-on about the utility bills. Hickman should win over Hobbs. He’s hands-down a more qualified candidate. Slatkin said grass-cutting is the number one priority. He’s out of touch. Myron was Myron. He’ll win without spending a dime.

Delores Brewer appeared nervous and had difficulty answering the questions. Still, she did a better job than I expected.

Joe Fuller was all smiles. He surprised me. I probably won’t vote for him. The water slide comment was stupid.

Red should not be invited back to any of these things.

Roy had the most positive, intelligent message. I’d like to hear more specifics from him, but he’s off to a nice start.

Sams was Sams. I’m glad we all got a reminder about who this guy really is. It’s rare to encounter an ego of such epic proportions. All the talk about Joe Fuller being dangerous is pishposh. Sams is the real danger.

Charles F. Smith was funny, and he can afford to be, because there’s no way he expects to win.

listen all, i am a sams supporter. everything i saw at the debate was through those glasses. that aside, it sure seemed to me roy talked in pablum and platitudes with absolutely nothing specific. vote for me cuz you can trust me. his comments and lack of any detail in his answers clearly shows a candidate that is 35 and decided he wanted to be mayor two weeks before qualifying. sams on the other hand was very specific with details, actual projects, and facts. he pointed out the 60 million to whites, and 400 thou to blacks before the question was even asked. seriously, where am i wrong here. tell me what roy told you he intends to do other than banal generalities?

Biff, you use your tounge pretter than a twenty dollar whore. I am going to have to look some of those words up. Biff, please don’t let Mayor,Doctor,Lord Sams demolish city hall and Cotton Storage.

Biff, I’m looking over your “draft plan of action” and it’s great. Although, I can’t seem to find anywhere on your site that explains exactly how you’re going to get these things done. For instance, “clean up corruption in City Hall”. Does that mean you’re going to being giving people like DB and Myron the boot? “Support public schools”, does this mean we’ll end up voting on more taxes? “Upgrade streets”, spending more of my money and what streets are you talking about?

But I do have to say the one you nailed dead on and absolutely agree with is “Listen to the People and Act on their Input”.

waterslide, we will chain ourselves to that beautiful building in civil disobedience. i’ll have to check the attic and see if i still have my tie dye t-shirts from the 60’s.

Will it be shown on television?

I don’t think so. It will be crowded though. Yesterday’s event was filled to capacity in the chambers, and the overflow room had between 50-100 people. I’d expect a similiar, if not larger, crowd tomorrow, considering there is more space in the Bolton High auditorium.

I believe the next debate that will be broadcasted, in some form (streaming from the Internet) is the KALB Coughlin-Saunders event.

    From the Town Talk–
In a question about vision, the mayoral candidates appeared to come to life, but even there only John Sams rattled off what needs to be done.

    This should read–

In a question about vision, the mayoral candidates appeared to come to life, but even there only John Sams rattled off what HE THINKS needs to be done.

Oh John, looks like you’re getting the kiss of death.

Maybe they can put the waterslide off the side of the parking garage/condos, and have it go straight into the river. Perfect.

Downtown development, waterslides, affordable housing, river development and activities for the family. we can even have it built by minorities.

To some extent, you folks in Alexandria get what you deserve. If you continue to attack people for the way they look or the way they talk just because they are more educated than you, then you should continue to move along in your horses and buggies into the 22nd Century. Go ahead then and elect a guy who is out actively buying votes and trying to remake his image into something other than a no count trial lawyer who makes his living suing people over accidents where no one is hurt. As long as he owns the judges downtown then he collects a paycheck.

When is someone going to have the guts to call this corrupt Peyton Place what it really is?

    Anonymous….

you attack Alexandrians for not moving into the current century by judging a book by its cover, yet you accuse others that are running of playing old time politics…

    pot meet kettle…wow, impressive.

Sams is not change. He talks a good talk, but he is not a good leader. He would be terrible for Alexandria. Maybe if he loses, he’ll move somewhere else. One can only hope.

  19. Anonymous Avatar

Sams is the best hope we have and is best positioned to win. What he says he will do is real and he can get the job done…

If you believe that, I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona for you.

Sam will attempt to do what he says he will, piss people off, and get nothing done. Then in 4 years maybe people will be fed up enough to vote for a real mayor.

After 4 years of Sams, Alice Hammond will look good.

After four years of Sams, Pee Wee Herman would look good.
