The Fleecing of Alexandria:
The basic story is this: The wife of our city’s attorney created her own consultation company. This consultation company entered into a contract with the Alexandria Housing Authority. This company has been paid at the rate of $18,416 a month or $221,016 a year. Thus far, they have offered no explanation of the services that they have provided. I’m still waiting to hear two things: what they’ve done and why we’ve needed them.
In other news, I enjoyed this letter in today’s newspaper, which basically claimed that the President of LC should not be criticized, because, like God, he’s an authority figure that should be respected by young people. I know I’m simplifying the letter, but it was just weird. This is one of my favorite quotes: “We charge people to abandon these pharisaical, relativistic, pseudo-intellectual perversions of the truth — only then will LC be rid of the darkness.” Hehe.

Conspicuously absent from your “fleecing” post, is the attempted fleecing by Ms. Brewer, who tried to do the same unknown task for twice the bucks. Bridget responded by bitch-slapping the entire community. Where-0-where is the DA?
I am not sure what to make of Mrs. Brewer’s role, because she was quoted as saying that it would be “above the board” (or something along those lines) for her to accept the contract while Capital Projects Director.
Perhaps, at the time, she was considering a move into the private sector.
Either way, she made no attempts to hide her name from the project. (And by the way, she lost the bid. The company she lost to: VRJ Consulting, a vaguely titled, previously unknown company whose true “owner” was the wife of the city attorney). In today’s paper, Billy Gunn reports that no one on the board knew who ran VRJ Consulting, and that it could have made a difference if they had.
Regardless, I’m still not sure why we needed these consultants, but hopefully this is something that will be answered soon.
As always when Junior’s hand is called and he has nothing to substanitate his position he goes to mumbling.
Maybe he doesn’t have anything (in his favorite word) “substantive” to offer.
When The in-circle is threatened the in-circle circles the wagons. Brewer was a city employee bidding on city work.
Feel free to address me directly. After all, you are posting on my blog.
I can offer no additional information other than what has been reported.
But my previous comments, I believe, were substantive. It is important to note that no one on the board knew who ran VRJ Consulting.
The whole story is really disturbing, and I do not feel the need to “defend” anyone.
I still do not know why these consultants were needed. Can anyone answer that question?
If Brewer was a city employee at the time she bid and if the Alexandria Housing Authority is a political subdivision of the City of Alexandria she could not bid. It was/is illegal. Doesn’t matter if she was planning on whatever.
not to argue anonymous but just to point out that according to the original tt article the city’s attorney couldnt even find the AHA charter. so who knows what the true status of the AHA is. as far as the first commentator who wanted to know “where is the da?” when was the last time this da or any rapides da has ever prosecuted anyone for corruption?
this story about delores, and the city attorney’s wife is so wrong at so many levels. especially the boards admission they had no idea who they were issuing contracts to. hilarious. that gives you a lot of confidence in the board, passing out 18 grand a month to an entity they knew nothing about.

Ms. Goddard is doing some serious contemplating about her lack of meaningful news coverage on local issues, however, she appears to have made no effort to jump on this story and try to secure interviews with Randolph, Sanders, Ms.Sanders, Davis, Provosty, Lazarone, Brown – I mean really, how could she possibly be MORE worthless has a news director.
Where are you Michelle? Obviously, you’re not “ON OUR SIDE”>
LOL remember ms godard’s whole argument was that someone has to call them first before they can move on a story.
It seems unbelievable to me that the board didn’t know who owned the consultation company. Unbelievable.
and also we would speculate all that needless insulting that some commentators did to ms godard didnt help our cause out in her eyes. reap what you sew
No doubt about it.
Still, this should have been the LEADING story on today’s nightly newscast. Instead, it was a human interest story about a boy saving his grandparents from drowning.
Complacency: The Word of the Decade in Alexandria.
1. Billy Gunn did a story on Kelvin Sanders’ wife having an LLC and trying for some housing authority contracts several months ago. That is not a secret. Check the Town Talk archives.
2. Michelle Godard is not doing us a favor by reporting the news. That is her job. She just apparently has neither the insight nor the resources, nor the inclination to do it. Could anything be more obvious than the approach to take on this housing authority thing. Take the goddam microphone and go see some of these players!
toy we arent disagreeing with you because you are right. all we are saying is that it wouldnt hurt to be a little nicer.
Never thought i would admit it but……..Babs “adopt a pet” Zimmerman would be a better news director….hell even if she were wrong her drunken tirades might stir up some real news..
Just to clarify…the Alexandria Housing Authority is NOT a political subdivion of the City of Alexandria. It is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana just like the England Authority, Levee Boards, Waterworks District 3, Rapides Drainage District, etc… The Mayor of Alexandria does get to appoint some of the Board members just as he does with these other bodies. Get your facts strait before you go spouting off.
This is excellent information. This means that the city legal team, with it’s dozens of outside lawyers, was able to find the housing authority charter. This is a real sign of meaningful progress. Please notice once again that Lamar is scrupulously avoiding any mention of the Myron Lawson Economic Incubator. What makes such a bright and courageous guy so sheepish on this one subject. Is Myron a key to Lamar’s downtown hopes?
And we know all too well of the beneficence of the New Orleans levee board. LOL, what a JOKE!
Anonymous, I have to thank you for constantly entertaining with your naivity. P.S. I’m only a child
What is naivity? I see that you’re a child, good one. Which anonymous were you addressing?
Pardon me, naivety. And I was addressing you. I just wanted to point out the fact that you don’t have all YOUR facts straight, one being the relationship between Lawson and Junior.
However, I do love you company and I don’t always disagree with you. You have some very legitimate statements. And you’re right, I’m just a child but you’re the one taking time out of your day and spellcheck “a child”.
But on a serious note, how old are you?
Oh yea, you’re totally right on the Delores thing. What do you think will happen to her endeavors for office? You think she might resign?
Ms. Brewer really needs to get all her past dealings out in the open and spin the hell out of them. Otherwise she’s doing all she can to make sure Sams wins. She also needs to teach her hubby how to find his records. Come on does he really thing we believe that he can’t find his records on the insurance deal?
I’m reduced to dialup so about all I’ve been doing lately is reading the blogs. Ya’ll carry on and keep up the good work.
hey sentient good to see you again. we have been wondering where you had gone off to. good to see ya back.
I forgot to add that Mrs. Sanders was a part of the previous operation that lost the relocation contract. It might have been in the news and I missed it.
We Saw That, in 1994 56k was better than sex. Now it just shows me how addicted I’ve become to the web. I do have a T-3 hookup at work but they frown on me posting. No sense of humor in Alex if your not on the A-list. Too bad thats not a joke!
