I think - or at least hope - that most intelligent folks can see "He Saw That" for the true nutcase that he really is. His theories on 9/11, attacks on Jews, and utter disregard for any public servant are sickening.
Unless bloggers are willing to get out and do original investigative reporting, we are dependent on the media. I criticize them myself, for not covering stories that they should be covering, and for wasting their time beating trivial stories to death. If I know them to be reporting inaccuracies, I will say that, but the political blogosphere, with few exceptions, count on the media for material. Attacking the teen-ager was beyond the pale.

I agree with Mung. We need a better way.

Good on your mayor for realizing that the intertubes are important. He's ahead of many who hold political office.

It certainly seems that the Sansing girl deserves the scholarship. Kudos to her for the excellent academic work. I remember, however, working in the legislature back in the early 90s, and the Tulane scholarships were handed out as political patronage. Senators will work out deals with other reps to trade scholarships for supporters/family members, to avoid the appearance of impropriety. The reality is that individual legislators should not have the latitude to award these very valuable scholarships willy nilly. Perhpas they should set up some statewide system for kids to qualify to avoid these annual complaints. Just a thought.
